Week 8 Waiver Wire: Davante Adams, Mike Gillislee, Ty Montgomery and Top Pickups

Those who pay close attention to the fantasy football waiver wire each week knew better than to ignore Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi.

The top name on most waiver lists after a 200-yard performance, Ajayi rewarded those who scooped him up in Week 7 with another 214 yards and 27 points.

This week, it's all about the Green Bay Packers. After throttling the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football, the Packers boast a pair of must-own names as the team continues to march.

Joining those Packers are injury replacements, unexpected contributors and more. Here's a look at the top adds for Week 8.

Mike Gillislee, RB, BUF (6.1 percent)

A mistake by the Buffalo Bills means big things for fantasy football owners—or those poor souls trying to make up for the lack of LeSean McCoy. 

The Bills got stubborn in Week 7, trotting out Shady despite the fact that he still had a slight hamstring injury. It went about as expected—he didn't have much of an impact and later left for the day after aggravating the injury, possibly making it worse.

In limited action, Mike Gillislee looked good. A comment by Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News says it all:

Gillislee didn't blow anyone away with his two points, but five carries for 20 yards and past contributions hint at things to come. In Week 5, he managed 12 points on all of six carries, thanks to 61 yards and a score. 

One of the more explosive players in the league, Gillislee could have the backfield in Buffalo to himself after the coaching staff's gaffe. It's a good situation in any matchup, but keep in mind that the Bills next partake in what could be a shootout with the New England Patriots.

Davante Adams, WR, GB (17.5 percent)

Fantasy owners might only scratch their heads upon hearing Green Bay's Davante Adams led all scorers at wide receiver before Monday.

Adams, known for inconsistency despite top-tier potential, caught 13 passes for 132 yards and two scores against the Bears, which was good for 25 points. He outscored A.J. Green, Julio Jones and a few others, to bring up some names with major performances. 

Now, Adams won't score such impressive numbers again. This sounds scary to say a week after Ajayi went for back-to-back games with 200 yards after most probably said the same thing about him.

Still, Adams remains a solid add. Green Bay has had a hard time finding its typical offensive rhythm this year, and if Week 7 marked a strong connection between Adams and Aaron Rodgers, steady production will follow.

With a minimum of seven targets in four of his six outings, Adams will continue to see respectable usage. It's his sudden ability to turn it into consistent catches and fantasy production that should have owners getting excited and his ownership percentage swelling.

Ty Montgomery, WR, GB (20.1 percent)

One would think an offense boasting Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson wouldn't leave much at the table for a role player such as Ty Montgomery.

Quite the opposite. The mentioned rhythm issues have Montgomery getting much more than scraps, as he's recorded 10 receptions in each of his past two outings.

Green Bay won't go away from the production now. Montgomery catches nearly everything thrown his way, and as the video above shows, he stepped in well for running back Eddie Lacy. His Week 7 total of 12 points came by way of 10 catches for 66 yards and nine rushes for another 60.

With Lacy out of the picture, the Packers will continue to work the recently acquired Knile Davis into a starting role in the backfield, hence his name also popping up as one of the week's top adds.

But don't expect Montgomery to go anywhere. He's proved to be reliable through the air, and his versatility in the backfield won't go unused. Keep in mind that Montgomery's strong pair of breakout outings haven't featured a touchdown. With the way he's used, it's on the way and will only put him over the top when it happens.

Best of all? For Montgomery and the rest of the Packers, a Week 8 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons hints at a high-scoring fantasy gold mine.

Jack Doyle, TE, IND (14.9 percent)

Before Monday, Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle sat behind only Rob Gronkowski and Delanie Walker in scoring at the position.

Not bad for a guy with a name most don't know. Doyle started the year hot with a pair of touchdowns in the opener, fell silent for weeks but is back at it again with a touchdown in each of his past two outings.

Looking at the Colts, it's a wonder the coaching staff doesn't go at the 6'6", 267-pound tight end more. The Western Kentucky product only has five or more targets in four games, but last week's 10 targets are an encouraging sign.

So long as Dwayne Allen continues nursing an injury, Doyle is a TE1 in all leagues regardless of matchup. Andrew Luck loves his tight ends, and Doyle's size and reliability make him an easy target in most situations.

Doyle has actually looked better than Allen at points this year. More two-tight end sets featuring both and consistent usage for Doyle might be the spark the Colts need—and a big win for fantasy owners seeking consistency at the position.
