Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. San Francisco 49ers Betting Odds, Analysis, NFL Pick

OddsShark.comOct 19, 2016

Fresh off a bye, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be looking for their third straight-up road win of the season when they take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Levi's Stadium.

The Buccaneers escaped with a 17-14 win in Carolina two weeks ago but have posted consecutive SU wins just once since Week 12 of the 2013 season. The 49ers' free fall continued last week with a crushing 45-16 loss in Buffalo, which leaves them winless both SU and against the spread in five straight games including two home contests.

Point spread: This game opened as a pick'em; the total was 47.5 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark (view line updates and matchup report).

Why the Buccaneers can cover the spread

A composed Jameis Winston showed dramatic improvement two weeks ago in Carolina while leading the Buccaneers down the field during a fourth-quarter drive that resulted in a game-winning field goal.

Winston's improved decision-making and effective use of rusher Jacquizz Rodgers, who amassed 129 total yards against the Panthers, should continue to pay dividends against a 49ers defense that now ranks dead last against the rush after surrendering 312 yards last week.

Wide receiver Mike Evans will also be a regular target Sunday following an impressive start, making at least five catches in each of Tampa Bay's first five outings.

Why the 49ers can cover the spread

Colin Kaepernick gets a second straight start after doing a respectable job in Buffalo, throwing for one touchdown and no picks while adding 66 yards on the ground. He should be even more comfortable on home turf, where he has led the 49ers to wins in two of his last four starts.

The Buccaneers have been held to just seven points twice this season, providing an opportunity for the 49ers defense to replicate the effort from their 28-0 home victory over Los Angeles in Week 1 when they held the Rams to just 185 total yards.

The 49ers have forced an impressive 10 turnovers this season and must put constant pressure on Winston, who has thrown eight picks so far.

Smart pick

The Buccaneers have recorded just one SU win in San Francisco since 1980. However, Winston looks poised to continue his rapid development against a feeble 49ers defense. Look for Tampa Bay to extend the 49ers' misery with a decisive SU and ATS win.

Betting trends

The 49ers are 0-5 SU and ATS in their last five games.

The Buccaneers are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games as road favorites.

The Buccaneers are 1-7 SU in their last eight games after winning as an underdog.
