Matthew Stafford, Golden Tate, Anquan Boldin Post-Week 6 Fantasy Advice
The Detroit Lions' passing attack put on a show during Sunday’s 31-28 victory over the Los Angeles Rams, and fantasy owners who relied on quarterback Matthew Stafford and his receivers reaped the benefits.
Stafford threw four touchdowns, and Golden Tate and Anquan Boldin led the way with a combined 225 receiving yards and two scores.
Here is a look at their individual statistics as well as a fantasy breakdown for each playmaker.
Matthew Stafford
| 23-of-31 | 270 | 4 | 0 | 5 | 14 | 0 |
Stafford has been fairly consistent this season. Sunday marked the fourth time this year he threw for three or more touchdowns, and he has just four interceptions on the entire season.
Turnovers have plagued him on the field and in fantasy circles with 12 or more picks every season of his career except 2010 (when he played in only three games). The yardage is never an issue (he finished with more than 4,000 passing yards in each of the last five seasons), so the fact he isn’t throwing as many interceptions is encouraging for fantasy owners.
The track record is in place, and Stafford has plenty of weapons to work with between Tate, Boldin and Marvin Jones. There is no reason to turn away from Stafford moving forward.
Golden Tate
| 8 | 10 | 165 | 1 |
Many expected Tate to be the immediate fantasy beneficiary of Calvin Johnson’s retirement, but Jones has assumed that role in the early going with 519 receiving yards through the first five games.
However, Tate had a breakthrough contest on Sunday and tallied more than 41 receiving yards for the first time all year. Jones is starting to command additional attention from opposing secondaries, which means this showing could be a sign of things to come. Tate's team-high 10 targets also suggest that will be the case.
While Tate has been quiet this year, he has more than 800 receiving yards in each of the last three seasons. Trust the track record, especially since Stafford seemed to develop some important chemistry with the pass-catcher on Sunday.
Anquan Boldin
| 8 | 9 | 60 | 1 |
There was a time when Boldin was a must-start fantasy option, but the 36-year-old veteran is on the back end of his career.
Sunday was the first time this year Boldin went for more than 48 receiving yards, and he is Stafford’s third option at best on most occasions. His 789 receiving yards last year was his lowest mark since 2004, and he hasn’t produced enough to earn that must-start status this season.
Stash him on your bench as a bye-week replacement, but proceed with caution if you plan on starting Boldin just because he turned in a solid game on Sunday.
