Jimmy Smith Comments on Week 6 Matchup with Odell Beckham Jr.

Joe PantornoOct 12, 2016

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith isn't wasting time trying to get to New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. ahead of their Week 6 matchup on Sunday.

When speaking with the media Wednesday, per ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley, Smith stated he won't shy away from Beckham if emotions start running high:

"

All of that extra hitting and talking, that's not going to fly. That's not my game. I like to line up and play. 'Give me your best shot, and I'll give you mine.' But if you hit me after the whistle, there's going to be a fight...He's a physical player, and I'm a physical player. So, I'm pretty sure we'll have a good matchup.

Beckham has been in the spotlight over the past few weeks due to his outbursts after the play and on the sideline.

During the Week 3 loss against his nemesis Josh Norman and the Washington Redskins, Beckham threw a tantrum on the Giants sideline in which he head-butted equipment and hit the kicker's net with his helmet.

The following week against the Minnesota Vikings, in another losing effort, Beckham went toe-to-toe with Xavier Rhodes in a physical matchup and was flagged for taunting after he attempted to protest to an official that he was hit late out of bounds:

In that matchup, the young star was held to just three receptions for 23 yards, as Rhodes and the Vikings gave a blueprint on how to stop Beckham.

Whether or not Smith laid down the gauntlet to try to get into Beckham's head before Sunday, the Giants receiver will likely have his hands full against Baltimore's third-ranked defense.

If Beckham's emotions get the best of him like they did earlier this season, Smith and the Ravens will pounce in an attempt to take him out of the game and disrupt the Giants offense.
