Saints Invite Werner for Workout

According to Pro Football Talk's Zac Jackson, Werner was one of a handful of pass-rushers who worked out for the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday:
"Werner was one of several linebacker and defensive end-types the Saints had in as the team continues to try to upgrade its defensive personnel. Former Cardinals draft pick Shaquille Riddick, former Buccaneers linebacker Danny Lansanah and former Packers and Chiefs linebacker Dezman Moses were among the other notable names participating.
"
The Indianapolis Colts selected Werner 24th overall in the 2013 draft, and he had three underwhelming seasons with the team before they waived him in March. In 38 games in Indianapolis, Werner had 6.5 sacks and 81 combined tackles.
The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Werner in May but released him in August after he fell behind Dante Fowler Jr. and Yannick Ngakoue in the depth chart.
At this point, an NFL team can't expect the fourth-year defensive end to fulfill the promise he showed in his last two seasons with the Florida State Seminoles.
With that said, the Saints need help to improve at pressuring the quarterback. According to Football Outsiders, New Orleans' defensive line is 22nd in pass rushing through five weeks. The team's seven total sacks are also tied for 27th.
Werner would provide some depth behind Paul Kruger, who has a disappointing 49.1 overall grade on Pro Football Focus.
The Saints won't be able to find somebody who can transform the defensive line at this stage of the season. With its options limited, gambling on a bounce-back from Werner wouldn't be a bad idea for New Orleans.
