Knighton Works Out for Former Team
Monday, Oct. 10
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Washington Redskins worked out the 30-year-old along with Phil Taylor on Monday.
Knighton started 15 games for the Redskins in 2015, totaling 29 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He joined the New England Patriots in the offseason but didn't make the team for the regular season.
Despite Washington's interest, Knighton told Erin Hawksworth of ABC 7 News that the team isn't planning on signing him.
The 6'3", 335-pound tackle is known for his prowess against the run, which could be useful for a Redskins team that ranks last in the NFL while allowing 5.1 yards per carry.
In addition to his time in Washington, Knighton also spent six seasons with the Denver Broncos and Jacksonville Jaguars. He has started 96 of the 108 games he's played in since landing in the third round of the 2009 draft.
He was also a big part of the Broncos' 2013 run to the Super Bowl.
While he wasn't a good fit with the Patriots, he was still confident in his ability to contribute.
"I've played a lot of football in this league, and I still have a lot of football left," Knighton said in August, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. "I don't really know what the reasoning was, but I have trust in the coaching staff and trust in my abilities, so whatever happens, happens."
With the NFL season still in its early stages, there will likely be more opportunities for Knighton before the end of 2016.
