NFL Predictions Week 4: Vegas Odds, Spreads and Picks for All Games

Michelle BrutonSep 27, 2016

We have reached Week 4 of the 2016 NFL season—and thus our first bye week of the year. See you next week, Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles!

For almost everyone else, Week 4 represents the quarter mark of the season and the time to either begin breaking away from the pack, get their records back to .500...or start falling behind.

There are only five undefeated teams left on the season (Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, Eagles), and on the other side, there are four winless teams (Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints). Everyone else is trying to establish their identity.

Safest Bet: Cincinnati Bengals (-7) vs. Miami Dolphins

Needless to say, taking the Cincinnati Bengals to defeat the Miami Dolphins by more than a touchdown going solely off what each team scored in Week 2 doesn't feel like much of a sure thing.

After all, just given final scores, the Dolphins defeated the Cleveland Browns 30-24, while the Bengals fell to the Denver Broncos 29-17.

However, don't let box-score scouting fool you.

The Bengals lost to an undefeated Denver team whose talented young quarterback, Trevor Siemian, threw four touchdown passes.

The Dolphins, however, got into trouble early against the Browns, as they fell behind 13-10 by halftime and needed an overtime period to secure their win.

In fact, Miami only got the chance to win after Browns kicker Cody Parkey missed a 46-yard field-goal try as the clock ran out—his third miss of the day.

Cincinnati did some good things Sunday despite ultimately losing to Denver. The team mostly relies on the arm of Andy Dalton and the hands of A.J. Green; against the Broncos, however, the Bengals got their run game going with Jeremy Hill's 97-yard, two-touchdown performance.

That will go a long way for Cincinnati against Miami. The Dolphins were susceptible to the run against Cleveland; Browns rushers Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson Jr. combined for 25 carries and 148 yards on the ground.

Ultimately, Cincinnati boasts the more complete team in all three phases of the game, and that should lead the Bengals to a comfortable win over the Dolphins in Week 4.

Biggest Gamble: Jacksonville Jaguars (-2.5) vs. Indianapolis Colts

Look, the Colts aren't playing at their best right now.

They are in third place in the AFC South with a 1-2 record and needed some late-game heroics from quarterback Andrew Luck—who is experiencing his share of struggles—to come away with a victory over the San Diego Chargers on Sunday.

Luck has looked off, from losing a fumble in the first half of the game that San Diego returned for a touchdown, to completing just 21 of 40 passes and throwing an interception against the Denver defense in Week 2.

But still, the Colts managed to get 174 receiving yards from T.Y. Hilton and 82 rushing yards and a touchdown from Frank Gore on Sunday.

Sure, Luck lost a fumble, but the Colts defense recovered two by the Chargers.

So all that being said, it's not a bad bet at all to take the Colts against the spread versus the Jaguars in Week 4.

The Jaguars have had some positives of their own. They came close to defeating the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, and Blake Bortles passed for nearly 650 yards in his first two games.

The team has gotten running back Chris Ivory back and can finally show some more balance on offense.

Jacksonville's defense forced three consecutive turnovers in the fourth quarter against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3.

But ultimately, the Jaguars don't yet seem prepared to defeat the Colts by a field goal or more. There's a lot of talent on this young team, but head coach Gus Bradley has not been able to put together a complete gameor a winfor his team yet this season.
