Week 3 NFL Picks: Predictions for Vegas' Final Odds, Props on Sunday's Schedule

Steve SilvermanSep 25, 2016

Take a look at the New York Jets offense and ask yourself if it resembles any other attack the team has had in recent years.

The answer to that question is a loud "no." In past seasons, the quarterback play was mediocre or worse, the receivers struggled and the running game was overworked.

The 2016 Jets are capable of piling up points with big plays and long drives. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick helped turn the team around last year, and he looks even better this season.

Wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker are capable of making big plays and lighting up the scoreboard. Meanwhile, new acquisition Matt Forte has pumped up the running attack and given the Jets additional versatility with his stellar skills as a receiver.

The Jets are coming off a Week 2 victory at Buffalo, and they play the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.

The Chiefs, who are coming off an unimpressive loss to the Houston Texans after rallying late for a Week 1 over the San Diego Chargers, are three-point favorites, according to Odds Shark.

The Chiefs have been outplayed in seven of the eight quarters they have played this year. Their offensive attack appears cautious and predictable to this point in the season, and their defense is not playing its best football.

The Jets may be the only AFC East team capable of giving the New England Patriots a fight. Look for the Jets to jump out to a lead over the Chiefs in the first half and hang on for a straight-up victory as the underdog.

Oakland Raiders (-1) over Tennessee Titans

Don't think for a second that the Oakland Raiders are satisfied with their 1-1 record as they prepare for their Week 3 road game with the Tennessee Titans. While they played a gutsy game in winning their opener at New Orleans, they played a poor defensive game at home when they dropped a 35-28 decision at home the the Atlanta Falcons.

The defense struggled to get the Falcons off the field, and the Atlanta passing game sliced and diced the Raiders secondary to the tune of 389 yards.

This is a defense keyed by pass-rusher Khalil Mack, and he is capable of making big plays and shutting down a passing game.

The Raiders have to play a much tighter defensive game this week, and while Tennessee quarterback Marcus Mariota is a brilliant athlete with game-breaking potential, he is not an established star yet.

He will feel the pressure of competing with Oakland quarterback Derek Carr, and he is likely to force the ball into tight windows.

The Raiders are one-point favorites in this game, and they should be able to play much better than they did a week ago and win the game. The Titans will stay in contact through three quarters, but look for the Raiders to make the plays in the fourth quarter that will give them the game.

San Francisco-Seattle, Under 41

It may not be the most exciting game on the NFL schedule in Week 3, but handicappers should have an excellent chance to cash in when the Seattle Seahawks host the San Francisco 49ers.

The Seahawks are coming off a loss to the Los Angeles Rams, and they didn't look particularly strong when they beat the Miami Dolphins in Week 1. The Niners are 1-1, and they have a number of offensive problems that are going to keep them from scoring many points most weeks.

In this game, we would be surprised if the 49ers got on the board with anything other than field goals. Blaine Gabbert is not going to be able to solve the Seattle defense.

On the other side, the Seahawks have not gotten their offense in gear either. Russell Wilson will lead his team to a couple of touchdowns, but the Seattle running game is below average and big plays are rare.

The total in this game is 41, and we like the under. These two team won't surpass the 30-point mark, and the under is a safe play.

Prop Bet

The Dallas Cowboys are counting on Ezekiel Elliott to give them a dynamic running game this season.

Elliott was the team's first-round pick, and he displayed game-breaking ability as a star at Ohio State.

Elliott has carried the ball 41 times in his first two games, and while he has displayed some of his talent, he has also put the ball on the ground twice.

Fumbling is a no-no at any level, and a player with star potential can quickly gain a seat on the bench if he makes a habit of giving up the ball.

One of the prop bets offered by Las Vegas this week is whether Elliott will continue his fumbling issues when the Cowboys host the Chicago Bears Sunday night.

Those who believe Elliott will fumble at least once will get a payoff of $150 on a $100 bet, according to Odds Shark. Those who think he will hold onto the ball must risk $200 to win $100.

Look for Elliott to go past the 100-yard mark for the first time in his career and score a touchdown. However, he will also fumble at least once, so it may be wise to risk $100 to get the $150 payoff.
