New York Jets vs. Kansas City Chiefs Betting Odds, Analysis, NFL Pick

OddsShark.comSep 22, 2016

The Kansas City Chiefs will be shooting for their 12th straight win as betting favorites when they host the New York Jets on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chiefs failed to score a touchdown in last weekend's 19-12 road loss in Houston, dropping them to 2-6 against the spread in their past eight games overall. New York has suffered just one ATS loss in its past eight games and is coming off an impressive offensive performance in last week's 37-31 win in Buffalo as a one-point underdog.

Point spread: The Chiefs opened as four-point favorites; the total was 44 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark (view line updates and matchup report).

Why the Jets can cover the spread

New York's victory over the Bills last weekend continued a solid run that has seen it claim straight-up wins in three of four games, going 2-1-1 ATS. With an upcoming schedule featuring dates with the Seattle Seahawks, Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens, the Jets will be motivated to earn the victory to keep pace with the New England Patriots in the AFC East standings.

Ryan Fitzpatrick continues to be a calming force at the reins of the Jets offense, tossing three touchdown passes and averaging 282 yards per game in the air. However, the receiving corps has been bitten by the injury bug, with the status of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker uncertain for Sunday.

Why the Chiefs can cover the spread

Kansas City needed 17 fourth-quarter points and overtime to get past the San Diego Chargers by a 33-27 score in Week 1 and failed to penetrate the Texans' red zone until midway through the fourth quarter in last week's loss in Houston.

However, the Chiefs have been a force at home, winning seven straight SU and claiming victory by an average margin of 6.2 points in their past five outings. Despite those impressive numbers, though, they have failed to cover in their past four games at home.

The Chiefs hope to get rusher Jamaal Charles back from injury this week, positioning them to score more than three points before halftime for the first time this season.

Smart pick

Kansas City posted a 24-10 win as eight-point home chalk the last time these teams met in 2014, ending a three-game SU losing streak against the Jets and lifting it to 3-1 SU and ATS in its past four home dates with New York.

With Marshall and Decker either sidelined or playing hurt while Charles makes his season debut, the Chiefs may gain an advantage on offense, which they must use to thwart New York's strong possession game.

Look for the Chiefs to continue their home dominance of New York with a SU and ATS win.

Betting trends

The Jets are 1-5 ATS in their last six games against the Chiefs.

The Chiefs are 11-0 SU in their last 11 games as favorites.

The Jets are 5-0-2 ATS in their last seven games as underdogs.
