Oakland Raiders vs. Tennessee Titans Betting Odds, Analysis, NFL Pick

OddsShark.comSep 21, 2016

The Tennessee Titans will be looking to record consecutive straight-up wins for the first time in over two years when they host the Oakland Raiders on Sunday at Nissan Stadium. The Titans ended a five-game SU losing streak with a 16-15 win in Detroit last weekend as six-point underdogs, covering for the first time in 10 outings.

Oakland posted a 35-28 loss to Atlanta as four-point home chalk last week, and has now alternated between SU wins and losses over its past nine outings.

Point spread: This game opened as a pick'em and the total was at 48 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. (Line updates and matchup report)

Why the Raiders can cover the spread

The Raiders opened the season to high expectations and didn't disappoint in Week 1, knocking off the New Orleans Saints by a 35-34 score and picking up the against-the-spread win as 2.5-point road underdogs.

But Oakland was unable to keep pace with the Falcons' high-octane offense, surrendering over 500 total yards for a second straight weekend, leaving their team defense dead last in the league through Week 2.

However, Oakland's defense got the job done the last time these two teams met, holding Tennessee to just 249 yards in a 24-21 road win as one-point underdogs in Week 12 of last year.

Why the Titans can cover the spread

Following a second-half meltdown in a 25-16 Week 1 loss to Minnesota, Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota maintained his poise last week, leading a fourth-quarter comeback against the Lions and marking the first signs of life for Tennessee's moribund offense.

The Titans will get as far as Mariota will take them, and the second-year pro needs to exploit Oakland's current defensive woes if they want to earn just their second SU win at home in their past 15.

The Titans defense also needs a repeat of its second-half performance in Detroit, when it allowed the Lions inside Tennessee territory just once, holding Matt Stafford to just 106 passing yards while sacking him three times.

Smart pick

There is little doubt as to the potency of Oakland's offense. Quarterback Derek Carr has developed chemistry with receiver Amari Cooper, but also connected with nine other targets against the Falcons.

The question for the Titans is whether they can maintain the momentum gained from last week's strong finish. The Titans have failed to score more than 16 points in 11 of their past 15 games, but have held the Raiders to just 16.25 points per game while going 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS in their past four meetings.

Look for the Raiders to win and cover in what has the potential to be a high-scoring contest.

Betting trends

The Raiders are 2-8 SU and 3-7 ATS in their past 10 games on the road against the Titans.

The visiting team is 4-12 SU in its past 16 games in this matchup.

The Raiders are 6-2 ATS in their past eight games as an underdog.
