Aaron Dobson Reportedly to Sign with Lions
Former New England Patriots wide receiver Aaron Dobson was reportedly drawing interest from several teams around the NFL, but he's found a new home.
NFL insider Rand Getlin reported that Dobson will sign with the Detroit Lions. Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press confirmed the news and noted that it will become official on Wednesday.
Dobson has dealt with injuries throughout his career after the Patriots selected him in the second round of the 2013 draft. According to CSNBayArea.com's Matt Maiocco, he suffered a stress fracture in his foot during his rookie campaign and played in 12 games. That marked a career high, as a hamstring injury in 2014 limited him to four contests and an ankle sprain last year limited him to eight.
He was productive as a rookie with 519 receiving yards and four touchdown catches but struggled to replicate those totals in the following two injury-marred seasons. He tallied a combined 16 catches for 179 yards in those two years and didn’t find the end zone.
He essentially became an afterthought in a powerful New England offense that featured Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola.
Now he'll join the likes of Golden Tate, Marvin Jones Jr., Anquan Boldin and tight end Eric Ebron to give Matthew Stafford another vertical weapon.
