Broncos Deny Talib Is Available

Sunday, Sept. 4

"False," Elway said, per ESPN.com. "[Talib's] name was never brought up anywhere."

ESPN's Dianna Russini reported Saturday that the Broncos were looking to trade their Pro Bowl cornerback.

Talib, 30, has made the Pro Bowl each of the last three seasons. In 2015, he had 45 tackles and three interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns. Pro Football Focus ranked him 30th among qualifying cornerbacks.

Despite his strong on-field resume, Talib has a history of off-field incidents that might explain Denver's willingness to trade him. He was shot in the leg outside of a Dallas strip club in June, though the injury was minor. His career was previously in jeopardy following multiple incidents while he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, including a dropped felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon.

The NFL is investigating Talib's June incident under the league's personal conduct policy.

"The situation is still under review, and we have to respect that process," Talib told reporters in August. "I'm not going to talk about that right now, but I feel great."

The Broncos don't have a reliable replacement for their top corner spot on the roster, so it would be a surprise to see them move him. Talib, even with his off-field problems, is one of the league's best corners and an expected anchor as Denver attempts to repeat its Super Bowl 50 win.
