Joey Bosa's Holdout with Chargers
For Chargers fans hoping they might finally get to see No. 3 overall pick Joey Bosa in action Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, that's looking less and less likely by the day.
Contract negotiations between the Chargers and Bosa have continued to decline, to the point that the Chargers released a statement detailing the final offer they extended to Bosa's camp on Tuesday:
The issue on the table between Bosa and the Chargers concerns signing bonus deferment and offset language.
Bosa's camp released its own statement in response to the Chargers'. The moves by the two sides, if anything, appear to have only made relations worse.
At this point, as the Chargers indicate in their statement, Bosa has missed enough of training camp that the team does not feel he would be ready to participate in Week 1. As such, San Diego is restructuring its offer to Bosa.
The question now, however, becomes whether Chargers fans will ever see the third overall pick take the field for the Chargers. If the two sides cannot come to terms, Bosa could sit out the year and re-enter the draft next year.
Ezekiel Elliot's Debut
Dallas' first-round draft selection, running back Ezekiel Elliott, is set to make his first appearance in a preseason game for the Cowboys on Thursday night:
This will be Elliott's first opportunity to show the public what he can do outside of practice, but Alfred Morris' performance last week against the Miami Dolphins is promising for what Elliott should be able to do behind the same offensive line.
Morris rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries against Miami.
Elliott missed the first two preseason games and eight total practices with a hamstring injury that he suffered on August 2 in practice.
"I think I've done a good job getting my mental reps when I was out and I'm finally getting back into the groove," Elliott said, per ESPN.com's Todd Archer. "I think I'm ready."
Can Roberto Aguayo Get It Together?

The fact that a kicker is considered a storyline heading into a preseason game is a story in and of itself; kickers, for the most part, fly under the radar until they mess up.
Then they get thrown under the bus.
Compounding the situation is the fact that Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Roberto Aguayo, who has missed two field-goal attempts and an extra-point try in two preseason games, was drafted in the second round because he was such a dependable kicker in the NCAA.
To make matters worse, Aguayo's performance in the practices since his whiffs in exhibition play has not been promising.
Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported on Aguayo's practice performance:
Aguayo has consulted a mental coach in order to move past his obstacles, as Roy Cummings of 620 WDAE reported.
It kind of makes sense—a team trading up to take a kicker in Round 2 just might give someone a complex.
