Clowney Has Failed to Stay Healthy at NFL Level
Durability has been an issue for Clowney ever since the Texans selected him first overall in the 2014 draft. He only played four games as a rookie while battling a knee injury and eventually had microfracture surgery in December 2014.
Last year, Clowney missed three games, with a back injury dogging him in the middle of the season. He finished the year with 4.5 sacks and 40 combined tackles—not the kind of production many expected when he was coming out of college.
Clowney's numbers haven't risen considerably in 2016. Through 11 games, he has three sacks, but that doesn't illustrate his disruptive presence on the line. He has been a good run defender for much of his career; his presence alone has forced opposing coaches to alter their game plans.
With superstar J.J. Watt already on injured reserve, the Texans will be happy to have Clowney back on the field as they look to break into the postseason.
