Former NFL fullback Roosevelt Potts was arrested Thursday after an alleged attack on a woman with a kitchen knife.

Justin L. Mack of the Indianapolis Star reported Friday that court records show Potts was charged with one count of domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon and one count of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. He was booked at the Hamilton County Jail in Indiana.

Police responded to Potts' home in the early morning hours of Thursday to find him sitting on the curb. He stated there was a struggle for the knife after the woman approached him and said, "I'm going to cut you," and he didn't notice the injuries until after the scuffle ended, according to the report.

The Indianapolis Star noted the woman confirmed to police she grabbed a knife but stated she was going to use it to slash his car tires. She alleged Potts grabbed another knife and attacked, resulting in the "two visible slashes" police saw on her right shoulder.

The former NFL player told the officers an argument began after he returned from a day of golf and gambling, and the woman confronted him, per court documents. The report also pointed out police learned of at least two other previous instances of domestic violence at the home during the investigation.

Potts, 45, was a second-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 1993. He played parts of four seasons with the organization and sat out the entire 1996 campaign due to a substance-abuse policy violation.

He also spent time with the Miami Dolphins and the Baltimore Ravens after playing college football at Louisiana at Monroe. His NFL career ended after the 1998 season.
