Sapp, 43, was a seven-time Pro Bowler and dominant defensive lineman who played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Oakland Raiders from 1995 through 2007.

Charter captain Jack Carlson commented on the situation through text message, saying of Sapp, per the Tampa Bay Times' Greg Auman: "It's simple. He was lobstering with me and a shark bit Sapp while he was grabbing the lobster. He's OK."

Earlier Wednesday, Sapp posted a photo on Twitter of himself and the crew he was lobster fishing with:

Sapp has become a rather frequent fisherman, featuring the hashtag #SappFishing in his Twitter biography.

Initial indications are Sapp thankfully escaped further injury in the attack. It wasn't specified how big the shark was that bit him.
