Police Threaten to Pull Browns' Protection over Isaiah Crowell Instagram Post
Cleveland Browns running back Isaiah Crowell issued an apology Monday for posting a graphic image on Instagram that appeared to show (warning: graphic imagery) a police officer getting his throat slashed by a man in a mask.
Police in Cleveland, however, are reportedly not pleased with the 23-year-old's choice of words following the post, which appeared one day before the shootings in Dallas that left five police officers dead.
According to TMZ Sports, Stephen Loomis, who serves as the president of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association, called Crowell's statement a "store-bought apology" and said the tailback needs to travel to Dallas, meet with the families of the victims and make a donation in order to receive forgiveness from the group.

Loomis, who said the picture was as "offensive as putting a picture of historical African-American men being hung from a tree in the '60s," also told TMZ that if Crowell doesn't make a donation he will "pull Cleveland officers, sheriffs [and] state troopers out of FirstEnergy Stadium this season."
Monday, Crowell issued an apology and said posting the photo "was an extremely poor decision," according to Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot:
"My values and beliefs do not match that image. I am outraged and upset by the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile along with so many others. I am also outraged and saddened by the attacks in Dallas and the deaths of the five honorable police officers (Lorne Ahrens, Michael Krol, Michael J. Smith, Brent Thompson and Patrick Zamarripa) who were providing protection while trying to keep peace.
We have to be better as a society, it's not about color, it's about what's right and wrong. I was very wrong in posting that image. Every single life matters, every death as a result of violence should be treated with equal outrage and penalty.
"
In a separate statement, the Browns said that while Crowell was right to issue an apology, he's aware it was "insufficient." The club added that Crowell realizes he "must take steps to make a positive difference after a very negative and impactful post."
According to Cabot, the Browns do not have plans to part ways with Crowell.
