Brandon Browner Under Investigation for Alleged Assault

Timothy RappJul 6, 2016

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner is under investigation by the Pomona Police Department after he allegedly attacked his child's grandfather, according to TMZ Sports

Pomona police confirmed to TMZ that they were called to a California home at 8 p.m. Tuesday after the alleged victim said he and Browner engaged in an argument before Browner attacked him in the driveway.

The alleged victim claimed he suffered an injury to his hand, per the report. Browner reportedly left the scene in a white Bentley before police arrived.

Gregg Bell of the News Tribune passed along more details:

"

A Pomona watch commander told The News Tribune his department’s officers do not believe Browner broke the father-in-law’s thumb in a driveway altercation, as has been widely reported.

Pomona Police Lieutenant Ron McDonald told me Wednesday morning on the telephone “there’s a lot of misinformation out there.” He said police investigators trying to determine whether to charge Browner over the incident Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Browner’s driveway have “no medical evidence” the Seahawk broke the man’s thumb.

“He refused medical treatment at the scene,” Lt. McDonald said of the girlfriend’s father-in-law. “He fell down and then said he felt pain in his thumb.”

"

Browner, 31, spent his first three NFL seasons with the Seattle Seahawks between 2011 and 2013, lining up opposite Richard Sherman in the famed Legion of Boom secondary and intercepting 10 passes in his time with the team.

He then spent one season with the New England Patriots in 2014 and one with the New Orleans Saints last year, though he didn't have the impact on either franchise that he had with Seattle. He returned to the Seahawks this offseason on a one-year, $760,000 deal.

"I just want to come and play ball," Browner said in April, per Conor Orr of NFL.com. "I think I'll be a lot more comfortable here because I've been here before. I got guys around me I've played with, been on the field with, and the environment here in Seattle is like no other."
