2016 NFL Mock Draft Round 2: Day 2 Predictions After Round 1 Results
Round 1 of the 2016 NFL draft is in the books, and it started off how you'd expect, with quarterbacks Jared Goff and Carson Wentz going first and second to the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles, respectively.
That's when things got interesting. The San Diego Chargers pulled off the first shocker by taking Ohio State Buckeyes defensive end Joey Bosa. And with Jalen Ramsey available, the Dallas Cowboys one-upped San Diego's shock value by taking another former Buckeyes star, running back Ezekiel Elliott, despite having Darren McFadden, Alfred Morris and Lance Dunbar on the roster.

With the aforementioned Florida State Seminoles defensive back still on the board, the Jacksonville Jaguars kept Ramsey in the state by selecting him with the fifth pick.
The first round was a shocker. From likely first-round picks not going on Day 1 to Laremy Tunsil falling to the Miami Dolphins at No. 13 after a video surfaced of him apparently smoking marijuana, the first 31 picks are gone, and there are still some top names on the board heading into Round 2, including many from Alabama.

While many fans feel he should not have fallen out of the first round, even UCLA linebacker Myles Jack had a hunch 31 players would go before him.
“[The degenerative problems are] there, but it’s nothing extreme,” he said Wednesday, per Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post. “Down the line, possibly I could have microfracture surgery—potentially. Who knows what will happen? Nobody knows how long anybody is going to play in this league. To play three years in this league would be above average.”
All of that sounds scary. It makes sense that teams would want to stay away from the versatile Jack early in the draft. But there's a difference between taking him in the top 10 and taking him early in the second round. The Chargers already made one big splash, and Jack would complete the Chargers' haul defensively, according to Bleacher Report's Jason Cole:
Jack's knee issues raise concern, but it shouldn't be long before he's off the board. If he falls to San Diego, the Chargers would get a linebacker with terrific sideline-to-sideline range and quickness to get to the ball-carrier. He also played running back at UCLA. He's quick and strong and would be a great teammate with Manti Te'o in the middle.
Among other first-round snubs was Eastern Kentucky defensive end Noah Spence, who should've gone in the mid-to-late first round. Coming from Eastern Kentucky didn't help his cause, but he showed the same traits at Ohio State: explosiveness, a quick first step and a high IQ.
He needs to get stronger, but that will come with time in the weight room. While it's understandable that the Cowboys took Elliott with the No. 4 pick, they missed a chance to take Ramsey after losing out on Bosa. Here's where Dallas will redeem itself.
Spence failed two drug tests during his time at Ohio State. He comes with red flags, and the Cowboys know a thing or two about taking on defensive ends with red flags. There's also the situation of DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory both facing four-game suspensions after violating the league's substance-abuse policy, and the Cowboys need a backup plan at defensive end.
Kevin Turner of 105.3 The Fan in Dallas thinks Spence should be in his own group compared to those other two:
David Helman of the team's official website thinks Spence needs to be in the Cowboys' plans at No. 34:
Spence would fill a need for the Cowboys and provide depth until the two aforementioned pass-rushers return. It would also make it clear that Dallas won't tolerate another mishap.
Now to the quarterback situation: With Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch heading to Denver, the next signal-caller on the board is Michigan State's Connor Cook.
The Jets had a chance to take Lynch but decided to go with defense at No. 20, selecting Ohio State linebacker Darron Lee. They missed out on a chance to grab someone to replace Ryan Fitzpatrick. Enter the Buffalo Bills at No. 49, who should take Cook midway through the second round.
The Cleveland Browns are another team that can take a quarterback early in Round 2, and Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com thinks the Browns should take Cook with the first pick of Day 2:
Guys such as Cardale Jones and Dak Prescott should be available in later rounds, though, so the Browns will have a chance to address the position early in the third round.
That means Cleveland can address its secondary by taking Clemson cornerback Mackensie Alexander in Round 2 and pairing him with Joe Haden.
Former Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller should also come off the board in Round 2, and the New England Patriots make sense. While he showed he can use his speed to take the top off the defense as a wide receiver, he still needs to work on his routes and intermediate game.
There's no better team than the Patriots to help Miller transition to wide receiver. Tom Brady would be throwing him the ball, and he'd have former college quarterback Julian Edelman to learn from.
