Johnny Manziel Tells TMZ He's Not Drinking While in Los Angeles

In an interview with TMZ Sports on Friday, free-agent quarterback Johnny Manziel said he hasn't been drinking while in Los Angeles. 

"I'm out at the spots," he said. "I'm eating dinner. I'm eating good food. I'm not doing anything crazy though. I'm being smart."

The Cleveland Browns released Manziel on March 11 after two years with the team. Various off-field incidents dotted his time with the organization, and he entered rehab in February 2015. During the Browns' Week 11 bye last year, though, TMZ Sports released a video that appeared to show Manziel partying in Austin, Texas.

Fox Sports' Jay Glazer (via USA Today's Chris D'Amico) reported on Nov. 27 that Manziel attempted to downplay the situation by claiming the video was old. He also reportedly instructed his friends to lie to Browns personnel when asked about the video, which led to his benching by then-head coach Mike Pettine.

In January, police in Fort Worth, Texas, began investigating Manziel for an alleged domestic incident involving he and his ex-girlfriend, per ESPN.com. Dallas police officially launched a criminal investigation on Feb. 5 to look into the allegations.

The Denver Post's Troy E. Renck reported Thursday that Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak spoke with Manziel but isn't considering signing the former Heisman Trophy winner.
