Daniel Jeremiah Reportedly Interviewed for Eagles' Player Personnel Job

Tim DanielsMar 1, 2016

The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly interviewed NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah for a role in their player personnel department before putting the search on hold.

Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com reported the interview Tuesday, which was for the position of "player personnel head," and it was confirmed by a team spokesman. No offer was made, and Jeremiah proceeded to accept a new contract with the league's television network.

In January, the Eagles hired Doug Pederson to replace Chip Kelly as the team's head coach. Owner Jeffrey Lurie also announced at the time they were trying to fill the new position, but he didn't provide much insight into what the job would include, per Matt Lombardo of NJ Advance Media.

"We're about to do a search for a player personnel head," Lurie said. "That will really be an important search that we're all participating in this week. Given the competitive nature of that search, I'd like to talk to you more about our structure once the search is over. I don't want to telegraph what it is we're doing."

Those comments came a couple of weeks after Lurie explained he wanted a more inclusive power structure that would get input from various key executives as they moved into the offseason, as noted by Conor Orr of NFL.com.

"Tom Donahoe will run the day-to-day player personnel department, which is [a] crucial hire and a crucial position in terms of player personnel," Lurie said. "Howie Roseman will be responsible for making sure our player personnel department is as good as it gets in the NFL, he'll be accountable for that."

Between those two sets of remarks, it's unknown exactly what Jeremiah would have done within the organization despite the seemingly important job title.

The 38-year-old analyst previously spent time with the Eagles, Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens as a college scout. His main focus since joining the NFL Network and NFL.com has been the draft.

Geoff Mosher of Eagles Scouting Nest reported in February that the Eagles suspended the search, likely until the draft period is over. He noted teams rarely let high-ranking officials leave at this point after going through the predraft process with the franchise, which makes sense.

Once the search restarts, it's unclear whether Jeremiah will still be under consideration after re-signing with the NFL Network.
