Quinton Coples Signs 2-Year Deal with Rams
Defensive end Quinton Coples visited multiple teams but has reportedly decided on a new home in the NFC West.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the Los Angeles Rams and Coples have agreed to a two-year deal. NFL Network's Rand Getlin confirmed the deal has a base salary of $6.5 million with a max value of $9.75 million.
The New York Jets drafted Coples with the 16th overall pick in 2012. He's never lived up to that high billing, as he's posted just 16.5 sacks across 61 career games in five seasons.
The 25-year-old North Carolina product split last season between the Jets and AFC East rival Miami Dolphins. He had just eight combined tackles in nine games with New York and failed to register any notable numbers in six games in Miami. He had no sacks for either team.
Coples, who stated after the Jets let him go that he "didn't fit into the defense," could also benefit from moving to a scheme where he'd operate as a standard defensive end.
Finding a system that plays to his strengths is certainly paramount after struggling mightily last season, and it seems the Rams could fit the bill.
