Seahawks' Wilson Finishes Season with Record-Breaking Stat Line

Bleacher Report MilestonesJan 6, 2016

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson finished the 2015 regular season with an historic stat line, becoming the first player in NFL history to record 4,000 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns and 500 rushing yards in a single campaign, per NFL on ESPN.

Of course, such a feat likely would have seemed inconceivable just a couple of months ago, as Wilson and the Seattle offense looked less than spectacular while fighting through poor offensive line play and some key injuries.

The passing game finally broke out in a 39-32 Week 12 home win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, with Wilson completing 21 of his 30 pass attempts for 345 yards and five touchdowns, despite losing star tight end Jimmy Graham to a severe knee injury during the game.

In a sign of things to come, wide receiver Doug Baldwin stepped up in Graham's absence, catching six passes for 145 yards and a career-high three touchdowns.

Long one of the league's most underrated players, Baldwin shed that label by the end of the regular season, catching 11 touchdowns over a five-week stretch from Weeks 12-16.

Wilson tossed 18 scoring passes during that stretch and 24 over the final seven weeks of the season.

He reached 500 rushing yards in Week 15 and threw his 30th touchdown in Week 16, but with the Seahawks blowing out the rival Arizona Cardinals in the regular-season finale, Wilson nearly fell shy of 4,000 passing yards.

Nonetheless, he did manage to reach the mark, finishing his campaign with 34 passing touchdowns, 553 rushing yards and 4,024 passing yards; numbers that would have been good enough for an MVP award in may NFL seasons.

Not that Wilson doesn't have a legitimate case, but it seems Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is the overwhelming favorite, having led his team to a 15-1 record and the top seed in the NFC.

The Seahawks may only be the No. 6 seed, but it wouldn't surprise anyone if they won a championship for the second time in three years.
