Super Bowl 2016: Latest Odds for AFC, NFC Favorites After Week 16
The New England Patriots have dealt with multiple injuries to starters on both sides of the ball, but they still have future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady under center.
That could be why they are tied with the 14-1 Carolina Panthers as the favorites to win Super Bowl 50.
Both teams have defied the odds—the Patriots with their injuries and the Panthers doubling their win total from a year ago.
However, both teams lost in Week 16 and are far from locks to play in the sport's ultimate game.
| New England Patriots | +333 |
| Carolina Panthers | +333 |
| Arizona Cardinals | +600 |
| Seattle Seahawks | +750 |
| Green Bay Packers | +800 |
| Denver Broncos | +900 |
| Pittsburgh Steelers | +1,200 |
| Cincinnati Bengals | +1,600 |
| Kansas City Chiefs | +2,000 |
| Minnesota Vikings | +5,000 |
| New York Jets | +5,000 |
The Arizona Cardinals, who knocked off the Green Bay Packers, 38-8, in Week 16 are playing as well as any other team in the league. Their 32.2 points per game are the most in the NFL, while their defense allows only 18.5 points per contest.
At 13-2, they are third in line to win the Super Bowl, according to OddsChecker, but former NFL head coach Tony Dungy, who won a Super Bowl with the Indianapolis Colts, thinks Arizona should be first:
The Seattle Seahawks are another team that had looked like a good bet. Of course, they dropped a game to the St. Louis Rams in Week 16 after reeling off five straight victories.
Seattle head coach Pete Carroll was candid about the loss after the game, per the Seahawks' official Twitter account:
If opponents forget the Seahawks are the back-to-back NFC champions, it could spell trouble. Despite the loss, quarterback Russell Wilson has tossed 21 touchdowns and just one interception in his past six games.
That's why, despite not even leading their division, the Seahawks are in the top four when it comes to Super Bowl odds.
One team that was in nobody's top four, or even top 10 for that matter, at the start of the season is the Kansas City Chiefs. Six weeks into the season, at 1-5, they were left for dead. However, nine consecutive wins later, they are a top-10 favorite to win the title.
The hot streak has Kansas City head coach Andy Reid busting out moves you can only get away with after clinching a playoff spot, per the Chiefs:
They might not be a trendy pick, but the Chiefs can still win the AFC West, which means their first game would be at Arrowhead Stadium instead of on the road.
A few struggling teams are still top-10 favorites to win the Super Bowl. The Green Bay Packers have 8-1 odds but are coming off a 30-point blowout loss to Arizona. They had won three in a row prior to that, but one victory came on a Hail Mary pass—and they are just 4-5 in their past nine games.

The Denver Broncos had a three-game lead on the Chiefs three weeks ago, but they are a Monday Night Football loss away from dropping into the wild-card race. Despite still leading the AFC West by a half-game, they have not clinched a postseason spot, while Kansas City has because of tiebreaker rules.
This tweet from Andrew Siciliano of the Red Zone Channel sums up the craziness of Denver's outlook for the rest of the season:
Despite OddsChecker listing the Pittsburgh Steelers as the seventh-best pick to win the Super Bowl, they aren't currently a playoff team. They trail the New York Jets—who have 50-1 odds—by just one game and can get in with a win and a New York loss in Week 17.
The Minnesota Vikings aren't scaring anyone right now, but they have one of the league's best running backs in Adrian Peterson and an emerging quarterback in Teddy Bridgewater, who should not be overlooked.
At No. 2 in the AFC, the Cincinnati Bengals are flying under the radar. It may have something to do with the fact that quarterback Andy Dalton is out with a thumb injury. His long-term status is uncertain, but if he does come back, the Bengals' odds will improve from where they stand at 12-1.
It's always tough to predict what will happen prior to the playoffs, but one of these teams will likely come away as the champion.
But don't tell that to Washington, which has already wrapped up the NFC East at 8-7, or the AFC South champion, the Houston Texans or the Colts—because once the playoffs begin, everybody is 0-0.
