Daily Fantasy Football December 10: DFS Stock Up, Stock Down
For many regular fantasy football players, it's playoff time, but for those daily fantasy football players, it's time to focus in on attempting to make a million dollars. With Week 14's action just around the corner, we need to evaluate some stock reports and look at who's trending up, and who's trending down.
While we have a few obvious players on the list, like Allen Robinson, who have been simply rolling, there are also a few surprises under the "stock up" section.
And for those players trending downwards, even one of the stronger running backs in the NFL in previous weeks in Todd Gurley unfortunately finds his name on this list.
Let's get right into the full breakdown of the daily fantasy stock report for December 10, and kick it off with the quarterback position.
Stock Up: Brian Hoyer, QB, Houston Texans ($5,200)
1 of 6
From a fantasy perspective, Brian Hoyer is a guy who I've always been a fan of. If he's not injured, he's pretty consistent. He was awful back in Week 10 against the Cincinnati Bengals, but had a beautiful Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills, scoring 24.22 fantasy points.
While Hoyer's upside can pretty nice, this week is an even more intriguing situation for Houston's starting quarterback. Hoyer will be facing his old team, the New England Patriots. While Hoyer never threw more than 27 passes in a season for the Patriots, it's still where his career began, so he'll likely be ready to step up to the plate in this one.
Hoyer's play against the Bills was impressive, and it's also his seventh multi-touchdown game this season. At a cost of just $5,200, what's not to love about the odds of Hoyer throwing two scores, and working with one of the best wide receivers in the game in DeAndre Hopkins?
Stock Down: Todd Gurley, RB, St. Louis Rams ($6,800)
2 of 6
Ever heard the phrase "a picture is worth a thousand words?" Well, that describes the image above pretty much to perfection.
If you thought that Todd Gurley's struggles in Week 12 were bad, as he rushed just nine times for 19 yards, things didn't improve much in Week 13. While the St. Louis Rams were behind basically the entire time against the Arizona Cardinals, it meant that Gurley was hardly used at all. His nine rushes for 41 yards weren't bad, but it's the Rams in general that are hurting his stock the most.
He followed up his four point fantasy performance in Week 12, by scoring just 4.1 points in Week 13. We really can't blame Gurley, but unless the Rams can find a way to stay in these games, then it's going to be trouble.
The Rams are at home against the Detroit Lions in Week 14, so there's at least some hope that they aren't completely getting run over by halftime. If they can avoid that, then Gurley should see his carries and numbers improve. For now though, it's a case of the stock trending completely downwards.
Stock Up: Lamar Miller, RB, Miami Dolphins ($5,700)
3 of 6
Before we get into Lamar Miller, let's make sure to point something out about Miami's Week 13 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. In the 15-13 win, quarterback Ryan Tannehill threw the ball 19 times, and completed just nine passes for 86 yards and a touchdown.
Nine completions.
So, what happened? Miller happened. He rushed 20 times for 113 yards, and was just crucial when it mattered. No, he didn't find the end zone, but what's key here is the fact that he's showing the potential to take over games. I love what Miller did, and while he has a tough matchup with the New York Giants ahead, don't be surprised to see him have another solid game.
After rushing just five times for two yards in the game before, seeing Miller comeback with an outing like this one has to help his confidence. One thing that's certain, is that it helps out the confidence of daily fantasy players at the very least.
Stock Down: Randall Cobb, WR, Green Bay Packers ($6,300)
4 of 6
That picture above? That was Randall Cobb's Week 13 touchdown, or as I like to call it, the only thing that saved him from having a miserable day.
In two of the past four weeks now, we've seen Cobb fail to hit 30 yards receiving. When he did it last time in Week 11 against the Minnesota Vikings, his fantasy day was once again saved by a touchdown. The fantasy point totals don't look bad, as he's scored 12.8, 13.4, 10.4 and 10 over the past four games, but I'm not buying him right now.
With the Dallas Cowboys on the horizon, and their defense, which apparently has decided to turn the corner in a big way, using Cobb seems a bit risky. Regardless of your thoughts on him this week, his stock has gone in the wrong direction since his 99-yard, one-touchdown performance against the Carolina Panthers in Week 9.
I'm not saying Cobb won't bounce back, but I'm not going to be the one betting on it, not right now anyways.
Stock Up: Allen Robinson, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars ($8,000)
5 of 6
Hey now, just because you're already really, really good at football, doesn't mean your stock can't rise, does it?
Well, that's exactly the case with Allen Robinson. He's having a stellar year, as he's already caught 65 balls for 1,080 yards and 11 touchdowns. His most recent performance against the Tennessee Titans is the one everyone is talking about though, as he caught 10 balls for 153 yards and three touchdowns.
That's a wonderful 46.3 fantasy points, in case you were wondering. Here's to hoping that you had Robinson on your DraftKings roster in Week 13.
Even putting that incredible week aside, Robinson has been one of the most consistent wide receivers in fantasy football this season. He's topped 16.1 fantasy points in every game from Week 5 on, and there's little reason to believe that he slows down anytime soon.
In Week 14, Robinson and the Jacksonville Jaguars are up against an Indianapolis Colts team who has allowed 2,324 yards and 16 touchdowns to opposing wide receivers. Don't shy away from Robinson in this one, because he should be in for yet another big day.
Stock Down: Jordan Reed, TE, Washington Redskins ($5,100)
6 of 6
No, Jordan Reed can't score a touchdown every week. Heading into Week 14 though, we've seen him now go three straight games without finding the end zone, and that's a bit of a problem.
Now, when Reed is having games like he did in Week 12 against the New York Giants, where he catches eight balls for 98 yards, that's one thing. Last week against the Dallas Cowboys though, it was a completely different story, as he was shut down in a big way.
Dallas simply seemed to have Washington's number, but this type of performance can't make you feel good. Reed caught three balls for 33 yards in the loss, and that's tough to swallow when you consider that he's the fifth most expensive tight end in this Sunday's Millionaire Maker on DraftKings.
To top it all off, Reed and the Redskins are taking on the Chicago Bears in Week 14, a team who has been surprisingly good against tight ends. To this point in 2015, Chicago has given up just two touchdowns to opposing tight ends. Want to pull for a turnaround from Reed? Don't bet on it this weekend.
