Daily Fantasy Football November 6: DFS Stock Up, Stock Down

Chris RolingNov 6, 2015

As the march toward Week 9 has progressed, the stock market hasn't made things any easier for daily fantasy football owners.

One week removed from a devastating swath of injuries, last-second depth chart changes, further injuries, tough matchups and more continue to keep the market in a state of fluxโ€”the direct result continued changes of an owner's lineup trying to pull in the big win.

Let's take a deeper dive at the latest nuggets off the market and break down what it means for owners heading into a weekend with new faces and six teams sitting out on bye.

Stock Up: Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, New York Jets ($5,200)

1 of 7

By the sounds of it, New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will be a go this weekend against the Jacksonville Jaguars after a week of speculation thanks to an injury.

Coach Todd Bowles revealed the news, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN: "As expected, Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) is practicing again, wearing protective glove."

Call it great news for owners on the hunt for a sleeper play. Fitzpatrick has just about tripled his asking price in terms of points each week. He's a low-ceiling player, but the consistent floor while throwing to Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker makes for a great play if owners need salary relief.

Especially this week considering Fitzpatrick gets the leaky Jacksonville defense. At this price, Fitzpatrick is hard to ignore.

Stock Down: T.Y. Hilton, WR, Indianapolis Colts ($6,900)

2 of 7

It's time for owners to hop off the T.Y. Hilton train.

The Indianapolis Colts top wideout has 19 or more points in just two contests this year. Some of his struggles fall on the injury to Andrew Luck, but most fall into one simple categoryโ€”the Colts just aren't very good.

A nightmare matchup with the strong Denver Broncos defense just got worse, too, as Hilton continues to struggle with an injury. Kevin Bowen of Colts.com revealed that Hilton still isn't practicing: "Colts back to their normal practice routine today. No sign still of T.Y. Hilton. Andrew Luck (ankle) practicing again."

Hilton could practice Friday and make a surprise appearance, but it's quite clear he won't be 100 percent. Owners can sleep better at night in this range with Randall Cobb ($6,800) or Alshon Jeffery ($6,700).

Stock Up: Antonio Andrews, RB, Tennessee Titans ($3,600)

3 of 7
Andrews sounds like an every-down back in Tennessee.
Andrews sounds like an every-down back in Tennessee.

This requires a leap of faith, but owners might want to take a long look at Tennessee Titans running back Antonio Andrews.

The Tennessee backfield has been a mess all season long, but Andrews has emerged in recent weeks, earning 10 or more carries in each of his last two outings.

With new head coach Mike Mularkey at the helm, it sounds like Andrews' workload could increase, according to TitanInsider.com's Terry McCormick: "Mularkey: Antonio Andrews is the workhorse right now at running back."

Andrews has shown plenty of promise in those past two games, rushing for four yards per carry or better on the limited chances. If his workload increases against a leaky New Orleans Saints defense and he plays an every-down role, he's an absolute steal to go for triple his value and then some.

Stock Down: Ladarius Green, TE, San Diego Chargers ($3,300)

4 of 7

Ladarius Green of the San Diego Chargers acted as a great punt play for owners in need at the tight end position, going for 10 or more points five times over his first six games.

Then Green posted just two points in Week 8, leaving early with an injury that just held him out of practice, according to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

As Gehlken also mentions, fellow tight end Antonio Gates is practicing this week, meaning Green goes back to his No. 2 duties at the position, if he suits up at all.

Green has a great price and has been reliable, but this situation reeks of a trap for owners looking for value. Owners could instead look at someone such as Jacob Tamme ($3,300), who seems to have a blossoming role in the Atlanta attack.

Stock Up: Jeremy Langford, RB, Chicago Bears ($4,000)

5 of 7
Jeremy Langford takes over for Matt Forte in Chicago.
Jeremy Langford takes over for Matt Forte in Chicago.

As the week goes on, the stock for Chicago Bears running back Jeremy Langford continues to go through the roof.

With starter Matt Forte dealing with an injury, it was the widely held opinion that the versatile Langford would step right into the exact same role this weekend against the Chargers without issue.

Cite ESPN.com's Jeff Dickerson as one on board the hype train:

"

San Diego is the perfect opponent for RB Jeremy Langford. With Langford's role about to increase in the aftermath of Matt Forte's knee injury, the rookie will go up against the Chargers' 27th-ranked rushing defense (124.4) on Monday night. San Diego has allowed four tailbacks to rush for more than 100 yards through eight games -- James Starks, Le'Veon Bell, Adrian Peterson and Giovani Bernard.

"

At this pace, Langford will end up as one of the biggest chalk plays of the week, which isn't such a bad thing given the price tag.

Owners would be smart to hop on board for the ride.

Stock Down: Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($2,800)

6 of 7
Owners should wait another week with Austin Seferian-Jenkins.
Owners should wait another week with Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

Owners who want to capitalize on the lesser-known Austin Seferian-Jenkins of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers might want to wait another week to make their move.

Seferian-Jenkins can be a major aspect of the Tampa Bay offense with rookie Jameis Winston under center, as noted by his 31-point outburst in Week 1. He's been hurt, though, and was limited in practiceโ€”the same participation he had last week before missing another game.

The team's top tight end didn't sound confident when speaking to the Tampa Bay Times' Greg Auman, either: "I don't want to go out there and not give my teammates what they deserve out of me when I'm out there. They deserve that, the coaches deserve that and the fans deserve that."

Of course, ASJ could end up playing. It's a risk-reward that doesn't seem to favor owners, though, incredible price tag or not. For at least one more week owners have to look elsewhere for a sleeper value.

Stock Up: Chris Thompson, RB, Washington ($3,300)

7 of 7
Chris Thompson makes a huge impact with catches counting for points.
Chris Thompson makes a huge impact with catches counting for points.

Say hello to one of fantasy's best sleeper plays on a week-to-week basis.

It sounds like the pass-catching Chris Thompson is on his way back from an injury in Washington after a bye week. At the team's official website, Thompson is practicing in full ahead of the encounter with the New England Patriots.

The above should ring a few bellsโ€”a clash with New England means plenty of passing. Thompson is Washington's main passing-down back and happens to nearly triple his value every time out.

Rotoworld's Raymond Summerlin put it best: "Chris Thompson played 47.6% of WAS snaps Weeks 3-6. Did not score less than 9.7 PPR points. 10+ targets in both big losses. Only $3300 at DK."

This is a no-brainer for fantasy owners who want value at running back.
