Chris RolingNov 1, 2015

Week 8 is a good time to be an NFL bettor.

Quality entertainment is half the battle when it comes to placing odds. This week's slate not only offers divisional intrigue with the Cincinnati Bengals against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it also features eye-opening quarterback showdowns.ย

For example, Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers visit Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts take on Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.

Last-Minute Odds to Bet

Arizona (-6) at Cleveland

Carson Palmer looks to once again take down the Cleveland Browns.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer knows a thing or two about the Cleveland Browns.ย

Palmer spent most of his career with Cincinnati in the AFC North, and while he dons different colors now, his team shouldn't have any problems on the road against the Browns.ย

For one, Palmer is completing 65.3 percent of his passes with 16 touchdowns to five picks. His defense allows less than 20 points per game on average. His lead back, Chris Johnson, has 567 yards and three scores on his career-revival tour.

The last note touts the disparity between the franchises, as Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan pointed out:

Cleveland takes a committee approach because nobody will step up and it's hard to make headway on the ground when the opposing defense doesn't care at all about the threat of the offense's passing game.

The Browns have let up 26 sacks already and average 3.6 yards per rush. Against an elite defense and an offense capable of controlling games, this one has a predictable outcome, and bettors should act accordingly.

Prediction: Cardinals 34, Browns 17

Green Bay (-2.5) at Denver

Before the season, this one looked like a blockbuster matchup.ย

In a way it still does, as both the Packers and Broncos enter Sunday Night Football at 6-0. The problem, though, is the relative dominance of the former and the major struggles of the latter.

Manning's offense has scored more than 30 points just once this season, instead leaning on a top-tier defense to compensate for the fact the veteran looks to have lost a step. He has thrown for just 6.4 yards per attempt with seven scores to 10 picks.

It's reached a point where many wonder if the Broncos should make a change under center. So much so, in fact, the following quote from Manningย says quite a lot, perย ESPN.com:

"

Hey, I want to play better every single week and I promise like all my teammates we're out here working hard, we're trying to get better and we want to do our part. We know we need to play better, especially starting this week against Green Bay. Our defense has their hands full. Green Bay's going to make some plays offensively. We've got to do our part to score some points.

"

Rodgers and Co. can exploit this situation on the road.ย

For all the publicity the offense gets, Green Bay's defense has surrendered more than 20 points just twice. Rodgers, of course, is performing at an MVP level this year, completing nearly 70 percent of his passes with 15 touchdowns to just two interceptions.

Look for Green Bay to pull away, as a quick-hitting game plan to a wealth of weapons neutralizes the Denver defense.

Prediction: Packers 28, Broncos 17

Indianapolis at Carolina (-6.5)

It's been a tale of two franchises for Newton's and Luck's teams this year.ย

The Colts might lead the AFC South, which might be the worst division in NFL history so farโ€”Indianapolis sits at 3-4.

Luck dealt with an injury, sure, but the team's only wins have come within the division this year or, in other words, against three teams with a combined record of 5-15. Luck is completing just 56.2 percent of his passes for 6.7 yards per attempt and 11 scores to nine picks while trying to compensate for a defense that is allowing 24.9 points per game and a league-worst 2,860 yards.

"We're 3-4. That's where we are," Luck said, per ESPN.com. "There's not much story beyond that. We've got a darn good football team. We'll play better, and we'll fix what needs to get fixed."

Given the division, a loss in Week 8 won't sink the Colts by any means, which is probably a good thing. Newton is playing at a borderline MVP level considering the absence of Kelvin Benjamin, accounting for 13 total touchdowns on his own.

Luke Kuechly and the defense do the rest of the work, allowing the sixth-fewest points per game. The elite unit touts shutdown corner Josh Norman, who ranks as the No. 2 corner in the NFL at Pro Football Focus.

Norman and the defense will go a long way in deciding the outcome of this one, as the Panthers stifle Indianapolis' weapons and give Newton a large cushion at home.

Prediction: Panthers 30, Colts 20
