Donte Stallworth Says Tom Brady Used to Pay Practice Squad Players for INTs

Kyle NewportOct 6, 2015

In the wake of the report that Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill belittled Dolphins practice squad players recently, former NFL wideout Donte Stallworth revealed that one of his former teammates used to reward practice squad players for making plays against him in practice.

That teammate? New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

On Monday, Aaron Wilson reported on NationalFootballPost.com that Tannehill mocked practice squad players during Saturday's practice after the defenders came up with interceptions. Among the comments the Dolphins quarterback reportedly made was, "Enjoy your practice squad paycheck, enjoy your practice squad trophy."

That report had Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe calling out Tannehill:

Following up on Sharpe's tweet, Stallworth—a Patriots receiver in 2007 and 2012—revealed that Brady is pretty much the opposite of Tannehill:

That's what you like to see from your quarterback and face of the franchise.

Quarterbacks don't have to pay the players on the team's practice squad, so Brady certainly goes above and beyond in that regard.

However, giving them props when it's due should be commonplace at practice. There's no need to take shots at the practice squad players. They are putting in the work just like everyone else.
