Colon Provides Strong Alternative to Winters
In his third season with the Jets, Colon won the starting job in a training-camp battle with Brian Winters. The veteran had largely remained solid during New York's 2-0 start, helping to fortify the middle of an offensive line that's been among the NFL's best in pass protection, per Pro Football Focus.
The site's grading system currently ranks Colon as the 18th-best guard in football.
Winters entered Week 3 for Gang Green upon Colon's exit. A third-round pick in 2013, he has started 19 career games. He missed the final 12 games of the 2014 season after suffering a torn ACL and struggled to get back to his former form in camp.
Nevertheless, he hasn't exactly received glowing performance grades when healthy. PFF ranked him as the NFL's fifth-worst qualifying guard during his rookie season, and he received only one positive grade in five games last year.
