Fantasy Football Week 2: Big Board and Advice for MNF

Richard JanvrinSep 21, 2015

You know, fantasy football is insane. The onslaught that has been Week 2 of the NFL season up to this point is indescribable. There actually isn't a word to describe it in the English language.

But hey, guess what? I'm sure Monday Night Football will have just as much tomfoolery as Sunday did!

For the second Monday Night Football broadcast of the season, the New York Jets will head to Indianapolis to take on the Colts.

With star wide receiver T.Y. Hilton questionable, could this mean a big-time game for other Colts receivers such as Donte Moncrief and/or Phillip Dorsett? Additionally, will Colts quarterback Andrew Luck bounce back after what was a miserable outing in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills?

Note: Since Hilton's status is still questionable and not out, there will be analysis of him in this slideshow.

Starting Quarterbacks

2 of 9

Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck

Coming off a miserable Week 1 performance, Luck may get an Antonio Cromartie-less Jets defense. However, he'll still have that guy Darrelle Revis to deal with, but he won't bother Luck much. Of course, Hilton's status being up in the air doesn't help Luck, but he has a plethora of weapons and it's the team's home opener. I'd hate to be the Jets Monday night.

Projections: 31-of-45, 310 passing yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT

New York Jets: Ryan Fitzpatrick

If Ryan Fitzpatrick scored fantasy points for intelligence, the Harvard man would be the No. 1 quarterback in fantasy, but unfortunately he doesn't. In a game where the Colts will be lacking some cornerback depth, it's very possible Fitzpatrick could put up respectable numbers, but I wouldn't trust it—he still has Colts cornerback Vontae Davis to deal with.

Projections: 20-of-33, 240 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

Running Backs

3 of 9

Indianapolis Colts Starter: Frank Gore

After being hampered by a calf injury for part of his Week 1 matchup with the Bills, Gore is ready to roll in Week 2. However, the Jets defense—while not as stiff as the Bills—could still present issues for the aging back. Don't expect a breakout performance here, and expect the carries to increase as the year goes on.

Projections: 14 carries, 50 rushing yards; 2 receptions, 15 receiving yards

Indianapolis Colts Backup: Josh Robinson

After carrying the ball only four times for 11 yards and fumbling (though overturned) in Week 1, Colts backup running back Josh Robinson is not a player to keep an eye on in any format unless Gore was to sustain an injury and miss considerable time. Avoid—especially against the Jets.

Projections: 8 carries, 30 rushing yards

New York Jets Starter: Chris Ivory

Per Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Ivory is "good to go" for Monday night. This news comes as a sigh of relief to Ivory owners, as they were hoping to have him available given the injuries he's been dealing with all week. Ivory is a high-end RB2/low-end RB1 for Week 2 on Monday Night Football.

Projections: 18 carries, 75 rushing yards, 1 TD

New York Jets Backup: Bilal Powell

Powell is an interesting option coming in to Week 2. Although Ivory is "good to go" for Week 2, you have to wonder just how good he's feeling physically. With that said, Powell is a valuable asset in the passing game and should see a few carries. He's a low-end flex play in deeper leagues.

Projections: 7 carries, 30 rushing yards; 5 receptions, 30 receiving yards

Wide Receivers

4 of 9

Indianapolis Colts: Andre Johnson

If T.Y. Hilton is active, you can expect Darrelle Revis to spend some time on both Johnson and Hilton. Coming off a four-catch, 40-yard performance in Week 1, the one positive takeaway from that game was the 10 targets Johnson saw. Yes, he looked slow, but anyone besides Revis covering Johnson is going to have their hands full.

Projections: 6 receptions, 70 receiving yards, 1 TD

Indianapolis Colts: T.Y. Hilton

Although he is questionable to play in Week 2, Colts head coach Chuck Pagano is reportedly "optimistic" that Hilton will play Monday night, according to Kevin Bowen of Colts.com. As of right now, Hilton is a risky option if he plays. He'll likely serve as a decoy to help take some of Revis' coverage off of Johnson. Hilton is a risky play in Week 2.

Projections: 3 receptions, 30 receiving yards

Indianapolis Colts: Donte Moncrief

Even if Hilton plays in Week 2, Moncrief should be given his fair share of opportunities against the Jets. What he will benefit from most is that Revis will likely shadow Johnson and Hilton. Moncrief is a great option in Week 2, and also in daily leagues.

Projections: 7 receptions, 60 receiving yards, 1 TD

Indianapolis Colts: Phillip Dorsett

In Week 2, Dorsett will have trouble finding many chances to produce if Hilton ends up playing. However, if Hilton is ruled out, Dorsett immediately becomes an intriguing play. He's a great daily league play, but a high-risk, high-reward option in redraft leagues.

Projections: 4 receptions, 45 receiving yards

New York Jets: Brandon Marshall

No, he's not Darrelle Revis, but Colts cornerback Vontae Davis is a very productive corner in his own right. Brandon Marshall may have trouble getting open if Davis chooses to stick with him. Marshall is a middle-of-the-road WR2 in Week 2.

Projections: 4 receptions, 55 receiving yards

New York Jets: Eric Decker

If a wide receiver is going to explode this week, it's going to be Decker. Lacking depth behind Davis in the cornerback department, the Colts may not be able to contain Decker. He is a high-end WR2 in Week 2, and will receive quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick's only touchdown thrown Monday night.

Projections: 6 receptions, 100 receiving yards, 1 TD

New York Jets: Chris Owusu

A very, very sneaky play in Week 2, Owusu has a very high ceiling. Owusu is without a doubt the Jets' No. 3 wide receiver and is a great sleeper pick as a dirt-cheap option in daily leagues. Owusu had six targets in Week 1.

Projections: 3 receptions, 40 receiving yards

New York Jets: Jeremy Kerley

After playing just one snap in Week 1, Kerley is an afterthought going forward. Owusu is the team's No. 3 receiver.

Projections: 0 receptions

Tight Ends

5 of 9

Indianapolis Colts Starter: Dwayne Allen

Coming off a Week 1 performance in which he scored a touchdown, Allen will have similar success in Week 2. With the Jets defense having to deal with wide receivers Andre Johnson and T.Y. Hilton, Allen could sneak in for a score. He's a low-end TE1 option this week.

Projections: 4 receptions, 40 receiving yards, 1 TD

Indianapolis Colts Backup: Coby Fleener

In Week 1, the Colts trailed most of the game and needed to play catch-up. It's worth noting that Fleener saw just one target. Allen is clearly the tight end to own in Indianapolis. However, this could be a game in which both tight ends are productive.

Projections: 3 receptions, 40 receiving yards

New York Jets Starter: Jeff Cumberland

Going targetless in Week 1, it doesn't seem like either tight end is going to be involved much in the offense. Cumberland ran just six pass routes last week. He's off all fantasy radars.

Projections: 2 receptions, 15 receiving yards

New York Jets: Kellen Davis

Essentially the same case as Cumberland. The only difference with Davis is that instead of six pass routes ran, he only ran four.

Projections: 0 receptions

Defense/Special Teams

6 of 9

Indianapolis Colts Defense/Special Teams

I'll be frank—the Colts defense isn't that great. However, they get Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is always prone to turnovers.

In a game in which the Colts should win, don't expect them to give up a ton of points either. The Colts could produce a couple of turnovers as well.

Projections: 17 points allowed, 1 INT, 2 sacks

New York Jets Defense/Special Teams

The Bills gave Andrew Luck fits, and the Jets could, too. The Jets secondary is tough. Expect one Luck turnover, but also expect a Colts win.

Projections: 24 points allowed, 1 INT, 3 sacks

Best Sleeper Adds

7 of 9

1. Chris Owusu, Wide Reciever, New York Jets (owned in 0.1 percent of ESPN Leagues)

Yeah, the Jets' No. 3 wide receiver isn't usually a hot add, but Owusu is getting targets from Fitzpatrick so far this season. If he continues to be targeted, Owusu could end up being a flex play in deeper leagues.

2. Bilal Powell, Running Back, New York Jets (owned in 5 percent of ESPN Leagues)

Powell is clearly the No. 2 running back in for the Jets. if Ivory were to sustain an injury, he'd be the primary beneficiary. His pass-catching ability also adds to his value if you play in a points-per-reception league. Keep him on your radar.

Reportedly "good to go," the Ivory news will allow his owners to take a breath. If Cromartie is out, that's a slight boost to Colts wide receivers, too. Oh yeah, Geno Smith's jaw is still broken.

Start or Sit?

9 of 9

With all of the injuries present, what should you do if any of the injured players play? Hopefully this helps.

T.Y. Hilton, Wide Receiver, Indianapolis Colts: Dealing with an injury in which he was originally projected to be out multiple weeks, Hilton is a risky play if he suits up. However, he could screw up production among Indianapolis' other pass-catching options.

Verdict: Sit

Chris Ivory, Running Back, New York Jets: He's set to play, and the game should stay close enough for Ivory to get his carries.

Verdict: Start
