Adam 'Pacman' Jones Fined for Slamming Amari Cooper's Head onto Helmet

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam Jones has been fined for slamming Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper's head onto his helmet in Sunday's 33-13 win.

Jones spoke to reporters about the incident Wednesday morning and announced he'll appeal, as relayed by Jeremy Rauch of Cincinnati's Fox19:

The corner also posted a video on Instagram discussing the fine:

Jones, 31, ripped Cooper's helmet off and then drove his head back into the helmet on a second-quarter play that involved multiple personal-foul calls. It was widely expected that the NFL would impose discipline after reviewing the incident. ESPN.com's Adam Schefter reported Monday to expect a fine rather than a suspension.

"Whatever you saw happen, that's what happened," Jones said, per ESPN.com's Coley Harvey. "I'm just here to play football. I don't back down from anybody and I'm not out here trying to start anything. I'm just out here playing football."

Cooper, a first-round pick out of Alabama, avoided publicly criticizing Jones.

"I mean, it's football," Cooper said, per Harvey. "It's a physical game so you kind of expect it."

While he is known for his pattern of off-field trouble, Jones has largely eschewed penalties from the league office for on-field conduct. It's likely the NFL considered Jones' relatively clean sheet when deciding between a suspension and a fine.

News of a fine instead of a suspension is a boost to Cincinnati as a team, which has become increasingly reliant on Jones in special teams and in the secondary. He made 10 tackles and forced one fumble in the Week 1 win, also adding two punt returns for 23 yards. Last season, Jones made his first All-Pro team as a return man, culminating in one of the league's more interesting redemption stories.

Now, it's up to him to stay out of trouble on the field going forward.
