Former Cardinals Coach Jen Welter Will Walk Floyd Mayweather to Ring vs. Berto

Kyle NewportSep 7, 2015

Jen Welter's internship with the Arizona Cardinals has come to an end, so she will not be spending the first weekend of the 2015 NFL regular season on a sideline.

Instead, she will be at a boxing match in Las Vegas.

TMZ Sports reported last week that Floyd Mayweather Jr. offered Welter—the first female coach in NFL history—ringside seats to his Sept. 12 fight versus Andre Berto. That invitation has officially been accepted.

Welter took to Twitter on Friday to let everyone know she will be at the fight:

Per TMZ Sports, Welter will not only be in attendance, but she will also walk Mayweather to the ring. She will now join the long list of celebrities, such as Justin Bieber and the Burger King mascot, who have walked Money to the ring before a fight.

Some have questioned why Welter is accepting Mayweather's invitation, given the boxer's history with domestic violence. However, the former Cardinals coach sees this as a step in the right direction:

She reaffirmed that stance Monday:

While she may prefer to be on a sideline this weekend, Welter sees this as a great opportunity. And she's excited about taking Mayweather up on his offer.
