Jeff Janis, Ty Montgomery Post-Preseason Week 3 Fantasy Advice

Alec NathanAug 29, 2015

The Green Bay Packers got thrashed, 39-26, by the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday night, but receivers Jeff Janis and Ty Montgomery acquitted themselves nicely in the loss.

Janis and Montgomery posted nearly identical lines, but the second-year receiver out of Saginaw Valley State was able to differentiate himself by crossing the goal line for a late score:

Montgomery took the field against the Eagles' first-team defense and made an impact right away as he took a Brett Hundley pass and bolted past Philadelphia defenders for a 52-yard gain.

Janis later burst onto the scene with a 27-yard touchdown catch courtesy of quarterback Matt Blanchard. As DraftKings' Adam Levitan noted, four of Janis' 10 career preseason receptions have now gone for touchdowns.

While it appeared for a moment as though both players could receive a major boost after Randall Cobb left the game with a shoulder injury, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Packers "dodged a bullet," while teammates departed the stadium "believing it's minor, that it's likely just a sprain."

Despite Montgomery's inability to find the end zone, he remains the more intriguing option. ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky reported earlier in the week that Montgomery ran as the No. 3 receiver in practice behind Cobb and Davante Adams, and it will be a major boon for his fantasy value if he can maintain a stranglehold on that spot moving forward.

Considering the Packers invested a third-round pick to draft Montgomery, he's worth a look as a late-round flier in deeper leagues due to the potency of Green Bay's passing game. Elsewhere, Janis shouldn't be on owners' radars on draft day. That said, he'll be a waiver-wire target worth monitoring once the season gets underway.
