Steve Smith, Chris Culliver Ejected After Redskins-Ravens Preseason Fight

Joseph ZuckerAug 29, 2015

Apparently, Steve Smith and Chris Culliver didn't get the memo that preseason games don't matter all that much. The two players were ejected from the Baltimore Ravens-Washington Redskins game Saturday night.

Both teams became embroiled in a bit of a fracas after a hard tackle by Redskins linebacker Keenan Robinson on Ravens wideout Kamar Aiken. Sports Illustrated's Chris Burke posted a Vine of the tackle:

Smith and Culliver then faced off in what was a rather innocuous confrontation. Both players exchanged some shoves and little else. CSNMidAtlantic.com's J. Michael argued the repercussions were a bit harsh:

That didn't stop Smith's son Peyton from reacting to the ejection after the game:

According to the Ravens' Twitter account, the officials handed out five total flags for unnecessary roughness.

The raw emotions weren't limited to the players, either. Both Jay Gruden and John Harbaugh had words with one another on the field as well, per the NFL Network:

It's almost a guarantee Smith and Culliver will be looking at some sort of punishment in the coming days. The NFL has made it a point to cut down on in-game fighting this year. Troy Vincent, executive vice president of football operations, shared a video from earlier in the week that stressed that exact point:

Since neither Smith nor Culliver got too physical, you wouldn't expect their respective punishments to be much beyond a small fine.
