Steelers Confirm Foot Injury for Dupree
Saturday, Aug. 29
Pittsburgh announced in the third quarter the 22-year-old would be unable to return. Prior to his departure, Dupree made one tackle.
“He had a sore foot, so we got him out of the game,” head coach Mike Tomlin said after the game, per Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. “I don't know if it's of any significance.”
The former Kentucky Wildcat was viewed as one of the top pass-rushers in the 2015 draft. In his four years at UK, Dupree collected 25.5 sacks and 39.5 tackles for loss, according to Sports-Reference.com.
Dupree's athleticism off the edge will certainly help a Steelers defense that has shown its age in recent years. And with veteran leaders such as Troy Polamalu and Brett Keisel gone, it will be important for Dupree and the younger stars to stamp their place on the team.
So long as Dupree is ready to go for Week 1 of the regular season, this injury shouldn't be a major wrench in Pittsburgh's plans for 2015.
The presence of Arthur Moats at outside linebacker will help mitigate the impact of Dupree's absence if push comes to shove.
