LaFell out Until Week 7 After Being Placed on PUP List

Saturday, Sept. 5

Field Yates of ESPN first reported LaFell's status, with the team confirming the designation later in the day.

LaFell emerged as a reliable secondary option in the Patriots' passing game last season, his first in New England. He's given the team some much-needed depth to take pressure off the likes of Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski.

The foot injury currently limiting LaFell originally popped up during the Pats' playoff run that ended with another championship. The issue caused him to miss almost all of the team's offseason program.

With LaFell on the shelf and the team releasing Reggie Wayne on Saturday, per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Danny Amendola and Aaron Dobson could receive some extra looks, along with workhorse tight end Gronkowski.

LaFell should quickly work his way back into the mix once healthy, but the Patriots' depth and Tom Brady's ability to perform at a high level no matter the personnel should ensure there isn't a major drop-off in the meantime.
