Jason Pierre-Paul Tweets on Firework Injury, Finger Amputation and More

Adam WellsAug 23, 2015

New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has broken his silence on Twitter, using social media to offer some insight into his mindset with the team's season set to begin on September 13.

On the fireworks incident from July 4 that caused him to lose a finger, as well as cloud his long-term future with the Giants, Pierre-Paul made it clear that it was not a complication:

Noticing the typo at the end of his tweet—"accepted" should be "except"—JPP showed that he still has a sense of humor:

It's uncertain when Pierre-Paul will be back on the football field. Jordan Raanan of NJ.com reported on August 19 there is "no indication" that the 26-year-old has been able to start serious training in South Florida or that he's anywhere close to a return.

ESPN's Dan Graziano reported Pierre-Paul is not planning to report to the Giants until he is able to play:

"

Sources familiar with Pierre-Paul's thinking said Wednesday that there's been no change in his plans for his recovery or any movement on plans to return to the Giants. One of those sources said Pierre-Paul's recovery remains "a slow process," and that he's still not planning to join the Giants until he believes he's close to being able to play.

"

If/when Pierre-Paul plays in 2015, he will be doing so under the one-year franchise tag designation that was applied to him in March.

Even though there's been disconnect between Pierre-Paul and the Giants this offseason, there's no doubt the team needs him if it wants to make a playoff run. He led the defense with 12.5 sacks and had six passes defended last season.

Pierre-Paul knows how he feels, physically and mentally, better than anyone else. He's going through a serious adjustment without an index finger, so his desire to stay away from everything until he is ready seems like a sensible choice even if it causes the Giants some headaches.
