Re-Drafting the Last 5 Rookie Classes 🤯
The New York Jets are short on signal-callers in the wake of quarterback Geno Smith getting his jaw broken in a locker room altercation with former teammate and linebacker IK Enemkpali.
The Pats signed Flynn after Tom Brady was suspended four games for his alleged role in the Deflategate scandal. He was poised to enter the regular season as Jimmy Garoppolo's backup in the event of Brady's ban holding up, but he was unable to stay healthy.
Per ESPN.com's Mike Reiss and Dianna Russini, Flynn never passed his physical with New England due to a hamstring injury, which resulted in the Patriots cutting him and signing Ryan Lindley so they could have another healthy passer in camp.
With Smith out for six to 10 weeks, New York is down to veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick and rookies Bryce Petty and Jake Heaps under center. Fitzpatrick figures to be the starter regardless, but head coach Todd Bowles would likely feel more comfortable having another veteran behind him.
Flynn has failed to take control of starting jobs despite having many opportunities over the years, but he is an experienced signal-caller who has played for the Green Bay Packers, the Seattle Seahawks, the Buffalo Bills and the Oakland Raiders over the course of seven NFL seasons.
The former seventh-round draft pick is far from spectacular, but he is a smart, solid quarterback who can at least provide some stability behind Fitzpatrick until Smith is cleared to return.
