Daily Fantasy Baseball 2015: MLB DraftKings Late-Season Pickups for August 10
Sleeper picks can sometimes make or break a fantasy baseball team's season, especially as the 2015 MLB season is quickly coming to a close. As the wear and tear of the long season continues to impact every team in MLB, it is important to find the right players performing admirably at the right time.
Today's late-season pickups feature former All-Stars, emerging young talents and veterans showing new life. Here are five players to keep an eye on as your fantasy baseball team begins a new week.
Evan Longoria, 3B, Tampa Bay Rays ($3,800)
1 of 5
Once a perennial All-Star third baseman, Longoria and the Rays have had an up-and-down 2015 season. However, his recent streak proves he can still be a formidable option in fantasy baseball.
Longoria has hit .390 over his past 15 games and has hit four home runs over the current span. What’s more impressive is he has hit .304 since the All-Star break, compared to his .276 batting average over the first half of the season.
The 29-year-old’s impressive streak during the second half of the season combined with his reasonably low price makes him a solid option for the stretch run of 2015.
Daniel Murphy, 2B, New York Mets ($3,300)
2 of 5
After a disappointing first half of 2015, Murphy's fantasy value has risen to new heights since the All-Star break.
The second baseman has been a force over the past week. He has hit .379 over his past seven games along with an impressive .690 slugging percentage. Murphy, normally a contact-first hitter with just a .415 slugging percentage this season, has recently shown an impressive balance of precision and power at the plate.
The Mets have arguably been the hottest team in MLB since the All-Star break and Murphy’s recent performances have helped the team stay afloat. The 30-year-old is a low-risk, high-reward pick as the Mets hope to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Ender Inciarte, OF, Arizona Diamondbacks ($3,600)
3 of 5
Inciarte has been one of the biggest surprises of 2015 for the up-and-coming Diamondbacks. He has hit .296 so far this season and has been a consistent threat as Arizona’s leadoff hitter.
After a brief stint on the disabled list, the 24-year-old has come back from injury better than ever. He is hitting .311 over his past 30 games and has recorded a .328 on-base percentage over the current span.
The risk associated with Inciarte is the fact that he is an aggressive hitter while walking in nearly three percent of his at-bats this season. However, his consistency at the plate makes him a solid outfield option for the rest of 2015.
Edinson Volquez, P, Kansas City Royals ($6,100)
4 of 5
Volquez isn’t the All-Star pitcher he was with the Cincinnati Reds in 2008, but he has made a huge impact for the first-place Royals this season.
The veteran has recorded an 11-6 record with an impressive 3.11 ERA in 2015. He has been a legitimate fantasy option over his last seven starts, as he has recorded a 2.28 ERA and just 19 walks combined over the current span.
Volquez is a legitimate fantasy baseball option in all league formats. As his value continues to climb with his impressive recent performances, now is the perfect time to pick him up.
Kyle Schwarber, C/OF, Chicago Cubs ($4,400)
5 of 5
Schwarber is one of many young and talented players the Cubs have developed through their minor league system.
Since making his debut on June 16, he has added yet another big bat to the team's lineup. He has recorded a .341 batting average, six home runs and 21 RBI through just 28 games played this season. The risk associated with the 22-year-old is his impatience at the plate, as he has averaged nearly one strikeout per game in 2015.
Incumbent starting catcher Miguel Montero has returned to the Cubs after a brief stint on the team’s disabled list, which means a different role for Schwarber could be imminent. However, his impressive performance at the plate through a small amount of time played in 2015 makes him a must-have fantasy option even in a changed role.
