CSN Chicago's Christopher Kamka explained just how rare Choo's hit in the ninth inning was:
According to ESPN Stats & Info, Brock Holt of the Boston Red Sox is the only other player who has recorded a cycle during the 2015 season. Additionally, Choo became the eighth player in franchise history to hit for the cycle, according to the Rangers.
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News provided an overview of the company Choo joined:
All told, Choo finished the night 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBI as he became the first Korean-born player in MLB history to hit for the cycle, according to MLB Stat of the Day on Twitter.
"I saw determination in both guys," manager Jeff Banister said of Choo and starting pitcher Matt Harrison, according to Grant. "Determination breeds confidence. And that leads a guy right back to where they want to be, doing the things they are capable of doing."
Coincidentally, Rangers center fielder Delino DeShields Jr. fell a home run short of the cycle en route to tallying a career-high four hits.
Considering Choo entered the evening batting just .226 with a .307 on-base percentage and one triple to his name, Tuesday's outburst could adequately be chalked up as a surprise.
According to 103.3 FM ESPN's Mike Peasley, Choo had been struggling with his bat prior to stepping into the batter's box at Coors Field on Tuesday:
However, his timely explosion was welcome for the Rangers, who trotted into Tuesday having lost two straight, five of their last six and eight of their last 10.
While the Rangers' playoff hopes may be in doubt for the time being, Choo's historic evening produced a silver lining that could ultimately jump-start the team's quest to compete for an AL wild-card spot.
The Rangers can sustain their good fortune by clinching a series victory against the Rockies on Wednesday when the rubber match gets underway at 3:10 p.m. ET as Choo seeks to post back-to-back multi-hit games for the first time since late May.
