Gruden Comments on Severity of Morris' Injury

Wednesday, Nov. 25

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said Morris has a bruised rib, but nothing is broken and there is no cartilage damage, per Brian McNally of 106.7 The Fan.

Gruden announced on Nov. 23 that Morris is officially considered day-to-day.

Morris Struggling in 2015

Morris has never missed a start in his NFL career, but the 26-year-old has struggled to find his groove this season and has been splitting more time in the backfield with Matt Jones, who saw more snaps early in the season than Morris did, per Pro Football Focus. He never returned in Week 11 and finished the game with just two carries for zero yards.

Even if Morris misses more time this season, Gruden's rushing attack shouldn't suffer too much. Jones has gotten a lot of touches already this season. He posted a huge game against St. Louis in Week 2, with 123 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.

Entering Week 11, Morris led the team with 404 yards on 110 attempts but had zero touchdowns. Jones was second on the team with 332 yards and had three touchdowns on 85 attempts.

Morris has been a constant presence in Washington's starting lineup since 2012. He's carried a heavy load, totaling more than 260 carries in each of the past three seasons. But that workload seems to have taken a toll on him.
