Jason Kipnis Apologizes for Not Being Tall Enough to Save Carrasco's No-Hitter

Kyle NewportJul 2, 2015

If Cleveland Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis was just a little bit taller, Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco might have a no-hitter to his name.

Unfortunately for Kipnis, he stands just 5'11" and was unable to jump high enough to snag a liner to preserve his pitcher's no-no Wednesday night.

Carrasco was just one strike away from throwing a no-hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays when Rays left fielder Joey Butler hit a liner that went just above a leaping Kipnis' glove.

With the hit, the Cleveland right-hander lost his no-hitter, his shutout and a shot at a complete game.

Carrasco appreciated his second baseman's great effort and applauded. The two players could be seen talking to each other on the field right after the play, with Carrasco saying, "You tried."

After the game, Kipnis took to Instagram to apologize to his pitcher for not being tall enough to make the play.

"

"I'm sorry I'm not taller homie!" What an unreal performance by Cookie tonight! Big S/O to him for bein straight up special tonight! Something tells me with the staff I got, I'll get another chance! #Windians #moreboxjumps22

"

It's tough to imagine two players handling this situation better than Carrasco and Kipnis did.
