2015 NFL Mock Draft: Matt Miller's Final 7-Round Picks

The big day is here!

On Thursday night in Chicago, the 2015 NFL draft will begin, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers making the first of 256 selections that will span three days.

It also brings mock draft season to an end. Dozens of draftniks have taken hundreds of stabs at predicting how this year's proceedings will play out. On Thursday evening, speculation meets reality.

There's still time for one last run-through, though. With that in mind, here's a look at the final mock draft from Bleacher Report NFL Draft Lead Writer Matt Miller, beginning with a pick that just about everyone is going to get right.

Or wrong, if the Buccaneers have been shining us all on for the past several weeks.

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Pick: Quarterback Jameis Winston, Florida State

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need a franchise quarterback, and Jameis Winston is the only franchise quarterback in this draft. It's an easy decision for general manager Jason Licht and head coach Lovie Smith.

Winston can be the Day 1 starter in 2015 with his experience in the Florida State offense and has the tools to execute in a pro-style offense right away. With big targets Vincent Jackson, Mike Evans and Austin Seferian-Jenkins in place, Winston has the options needed to make big plays early.

2. Tennessee Titans

The Pick: Quarterback Marcus Mariota, Oregon

The Tennessee Titans may not own this pick when it is announced, but the selection will be quarterback Marcus Mariota—no matter who is making the call.

Mariota is the next best thing in this year's draft and a legitimate starting quarterback option. With so many teams in need of a signal-caller, it's unlikely Mariota gets past the Titans (or a team trading up to this spot).

Need-based drafting this early can be dangerous, and Mariota does need work, but he has the athleticism, character and football IQ to wow a front office.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Pick: Edge-Rusher Dante Fowler, Florida

Ignore the smoke screens connecting the Jaguars to Amari Cooper—Dante Fowler is the pick here.

Fowler is the "Leo" pass-rusher the Jaguars need to complete this defense. He is a three-down defender who can take away the edge and get to the quarterback.

He's an instant-impact player with a crazy first step and the flexibility to crush the edge.

4. Oakland Raiders

The Pick: Defensive Lineman Leonard Williams, USC

Wide receiver, defensive end or defensive tackle? That's the question for the Oakland Raiders, and it's a tough one that will likely come down to draft night. In the end, Leonard Williams is the best player on the board and a need for the Raiders.

Williams can come in immediately and start as the team's 3-technique tackle. He's quick and brings the pass-rushing chops to change this defense. With Khalil Mack in place, the Raiders would have two young studs on defense.

5. Washington

The Pick: Edge-Rusher Vic Beasley, Clemson

If this pick doesn't get traded, look for new Washington general manager Scot McCloughan to bolster his defense with the best edge-rusher available. For Washington, that's Clemson's Vic Beasley.

With Brian Orakpo gone in free agency and the new regime not tied to Trent Murphy, it's worth looking at a true speed-rusher like Beasley to line up opposite Ryan Kerrigan.

This wouldn't be my pick—I'd go for Iowa's Brandon Scherff—but it instantly makes the defense better.

6. New York Jets

The Pick: Edge-Rusher Alvin "Bud" Dupree, Kentucky

Look at the players Todd Bowles has coached in the past, and you get the idea he wants big, strong edge defenders with the ability to play standing up or with their hand in the dirt.

General manager Mike Maccagnan went after the same type of athlete with the Houston Texans. Bud Dupree is the ideal fit for the scheme and gives the Jets a speed rush they lack while bringing the power of a 269-pound pass-rusher to the table.

7. Chicago Bears

The Pick: Wide Receiver Amari Cooper, Alabama

The Chicago Bears can comfortably sit back and draft the best player available on the board with pick No. 7, despite a strong belief from fans that they must go defense here. Wide receiver actually makes a ton of sense for Ryan Pace's team.

Alshon Jeffery has one year left on his rookie deal, and the team's trade of Brandon Marshall puts the emphasis on untested Marquess Wilson. Adding the super-polished, pro-ready Cooper will give this offense the speed and yards-after-catch threat it's lacked.

8. Atlanta Falcons

The Pick: Running Back Todd Gurley, Georgia

The Atlanta Falcons could use a defensive end for Dan Quinn's scheme—and they may trade up to get one—but they also need a starting running back. Todd Gurley, the in-state product, could be a superstar at the position.

Gurley did suffer an ACL tear in November against Auburn but could be ready to go for Week 1 action. Teaming Gurley with 2014 draft pick Devonta Freeman gives Matt Ryan and the offense a balance they've lacked since the early days of Michael Turner.

9. New York Giants

The Pick: Offensive Tackle Andrus Peat, Stanford

This is not the pick I would make, but I continue to hear from team sources that the New York Giants really like Andrus Peat.

A trade back could be in play here, but then they have to worry about the St. Louis Rams grabbing their player at pick No. 10.

Peat brings immediate value because he can start at left or right tackle, which would allow current right tackle Justin Pugh to move to left guard. That would give the Giants a truly formidable offensive line.

With Victor Cruz and Odell Beckham Jr. in place at wide receiver, the Giants can score points, but this pick means keeping Eli Manning upright long enough to get the ball downfield.

10. St. Louis Rams

The Pick: Wide Receiver Kevin White, West Virginia

A true best-player-available pick, but Kevin White is also a need in St. Louis, where the team is relying on Kenny Britt to stay out of trouble and consistent on the field to be its No. 1 receiver.

White, Britt and a combination of Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey in the slot would give Nick Foles options similar to what he had in 2013 with the Philadelphia Eagles when he threw 27 touchdowns.

Offensive line or cornerback could be in play here, but if the Rams keep the pick, look for wide receiver to be a serious option.

11. Minnesota Vikings

The Pick: Cornerback Marcus Peters, Washington

The Minnesota Vikings have been linked to many cornerbacks this offseason, mostly Michigan State's Trae Waynes, as noted by Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. Waynes is a good player, but he's not the NFL-ready talent Marcus Peters is.

Yes, Peters has some off-field baggage after being dismissed from Washington, but he's the type of prospect head coach Mike Zimmer can turn into an All-Pro talent. Peters needs hard coaching and a leader he trusts, and Zimmer has both the experience and leadership to be that person.

12. Cleveland Browns

The Pick: Defensive Lineman Danny Shelton, Washington

It's a match made in heaven. The Cleveland Browns need a nose tackle, and Danny Shelton is a beast at the position.

Shelton is impossible to move off his spot in the middle of the defensive line, but he's also a sneaky athlete able to get into the backfield and pressure the quarterback. He showed that in 2014 with nine sacks, and the Browns could make him the foundation of a defense that's loaded in the back seven.

13. New Orleans Saints

The Pick: Offensive Guard Brandon Scherff, Iowa

The Saints need help on defense, but they can't ignore Brandon Scherff on the board here. Not after trading Ben Grubbs in the offseason.

Scherff is a plug-and-play starter at guard and has true All-Pro potential on the inside. With Drew Brees' love of stepping up in the pocket, the guard position is incredibly important for the Saints.

With Jahri Evans on one side, Max Unger in the middle and Scherff at the other guard spot, the Saints could have one of the best interior offensive lines in football.

14. Miami Dolphins

The Pick: Cornerback Kevin Johnson, Wake Forest

The Miami Dolphins have one really good cornerback in Brent Grimes, but on the opposite side they're still trying to figure out what works and what doesn't.

Adding Wake Forest stud Kevin Johnson to the mix would give them the length, quickness and instincts in a No. 2 cornerback and a very solid projection as a future No. 1 corner for when Grimes retires.

15. San Francisco 49ers

The Pick: Wide Receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, Oklahoma via Missouri

This may not happen Thursday, but that will be because owner Jed York has said no to the pick. The 49ers would be an ideal fit for Dorial Green-Beckham, and his big-bodied style of wide receiver play is exactly what Colin Kaepernick lacks.

If a team hits on DGB, he could be an All-Pro. There are off-field risks, which is why I reported multiple owners have told their teams they cannot draft him, but if Trent Baalke can talk York into making this pick, DGB could be the answer to their prayers on offense.

16. Houston Texans

The Pick: Wide Receiver DeVante Parker, Louisville

A small draft-day fall for DeVante Parker—a player I have ranked No. 10 overall—but he finds himself in a great spot.

In Houston, Parker will start immediately opposite DeAndre Hopkins, and with the team's big-armed quarterbacks, his ability to post up defenders down the field and in the end zone will get noticed.

Parker could go as early as the top 10, but with the way the board fell here, he's still available for a great value in Houston.

17. San Diego Chargers

The Pick: Running Back Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin

The San Diego Chargers want a power run game, and Melvin Gordon can give them that immediately. Of course, this is contingent on the Chargers not trading up with the Tennessee Titans to get Marcus Mariota. But if they stay at pick No. 17, look for Gordon to be the target.

He's an inside-outside runner with balance, vision, power and the speed to break away from defenses. As the Chargers look to a future without Philip Rivers as a reality, a strong run game will be key to staying competitive in the AFC West.

18. Kansas City Chiefs

The Pick: Cornerback Trae Waynes, Michigan State

The Kansas City Chiefs can go many directions at pick No. 18, but the smart choice is staying true to their board and taking the best player on the wall. That would be cornerback Trae Waynes in this scenario.

With cornerback a need here, it does make sense. Waynes fits the long, tall cornerback profile in Kansas City and would be a starter in Year 1 opposite Sean Smith. With Marcus Cooper looking like a backup at best in 2014, Waynes gives the Chiefs value and fills a need in the first round.

19. Cleveland Browns

The Pick: Defensive Lineman Arik Armstead, Oregon

The rebuilding of the defensive line in Cleveland continues with Arik Armstead from Oregon coming to town to fill a hole at defensive end. Armstead could be off the board to the San Francisco 49ers at pick No. 15 on draft night, but if he falls to the Browns, it's a smart move for them.

Defensive ends Desmond Bryant and Randy Starks are older players, and young guns Billy Winn and John Hughes don't have Armstead's athleticism or upside.

20. Philadelphia Eagles

The Pick: Wide Receiver Breshad Perriman, Central Florida

Speed. Pure speed. Think back to Chip Kelly's reign at Oregon and remember how he recruited track stars to play wide receiver for him. That's Breshad Perriman—a 4.26-second blur down the sideline.

This pick also fills a need, with Jeremy Maclin gone to Kansas City and 2014 draftees Jordan Matthews and Josh Huff lacking the downfield skills of the Central Florida speedster.

21. Cincinnati Bengals

The Pick: Defensive Lineman Malcom Brown, Texas

The nose tackle position has been a weak link in Cincinnati the past two seasons, and it's time to address it with a young stud who is versatile enough to play all over the defensive line.

Malcom Brown was a dominant force for Texas in 2014 and has the size, strength and quickness to beat blockers as a nose tackle, a 1-technique or even as a 3-technique if asked to spell Geno Atkins.

22. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pick: Edge-Rusher Randy Gregory, Nebraska

A top-10 talent, Randy Gregory falls to the Pittsburgh Steelers after failing a drug test at the combine. That's just fine with general manager Kevin Colbert.

Gregory would come in and instantly become a key pass-rusher for the Steelers, where veteran James Harrison and coach Joey Porter can mentor him on the needs of a professional. This is a value pick that fills a need—so basically, classic Pittsburgh.

23. Detroit Lions

The Pick: Offensive Tackle Ereck Flowers, Miami (Fla.)

The Detroit Lions are a tough team to predict in Round 1. They could go cornerback here or trade back slightly for a running back, but in a mock draft without trades, an offensive lineman makes the most sense.

There's currently a huge hole at left guard in Detroit, and it remains to be seen if Riley Reiff will move inside (making the pick of Ereck Flowers a need at left tackle) or if they'll try moving another player inside.

Flowers can play either tackle spot and would be just fine at guard. While he's a third-rounder on my board, Flowers' name has been red-hot in the week leading up to the draft, so don't be surprised if he's already off the board by pick No. 23.

24. Arizona Cardinals

The Pick: Edge-Rusher Shane Ray, Missouri

Shane Ray had a rough month. First Lance Zierlein of NFL.com reported that he has a foot injury that may require surgery, then Ray was cited for marijuana possession three days before the draft kicked off.

The two issues will push Ray down on draft boards, and just how far remains to be seen. It's hard to imagine Ray falling completely out of the first round, though, and the Arizona Cardinals have shown a willingness to take in character risks (Michael Floyd, Tyrann Mathieu) and get production from them.

Ray also fills a need here, as the Cardinals are desperate for a true threat off the edge.

25. Carolina Panthers

The Pick: Offensive Tackle D.J. Humphries, Florida

The Carolina Panthers have two great needs in this draft—left tackle and wide receiver. Ignore the talk that Michael Oher is going to play left tackle; that won't last through training camp. Oher should play right tackle, making the selection of D.J. Humphries not only a great value (he's my top-rated offensive tackle) but also a need.

Humphries is a top-tier mover at left tackle, with clean, quick feet and the length to keep defenders off his frame. That movement skill is huge here too, because Cam Newton loves to extend the pocket. Humphries is the slam-dunk pick the Panthers need at the end of Round 1.

26. Baltimore Ravens

The Pick: Defensive Lineman Mario Edwards, Florida State

Mario Edwards' name has been hot as the draft nears, and it seems like the first round is a good possibility for him.

Personally, Edwards is a Round 2 player, but the need for athletic pass-rushers off the edge makes him more attractive. And in Baltimore, he fills a need with Pernell McPhee gone to Chicago.

Edwards has the quickness, size and length to hold down that hybrid edge position in the Baltimore defense and is a high-upside player with tons of room to grow as a technician.

27. Dallas Cowboys

The Pick: Cornerback Ronald Darby, Florida State

The draft room in Dallas may get tense this year given the Cowboys' needs and the way this draft has played out. But at the end of Round 1, they can get an instant-impact cornerback, helping them finally move on from the pick of Morris Claiborne.

Brandon Carr and Orlando Scandrick are solid, but NFL teams need three cornerbacks in this day and age, and Ronald Darby has the speed and instincts to become a starter early in his career. He doesn't have great ball skills, but his speed and confidence make him a threat who most college offenses completely avoided.

This is a smart, high-value pick for the Cowboys.

28. Denver Broncos

The Pick: Offensive Tackle Cedric Ogbuehi, Texas A&M

The offensive line in Denver is completely in flux right now, but the selection of Cedric Ogbuehi to play right tackle starts to put things back in order. Ogbuehi did suffer an ACL tear in the Liberty Bowl, but his rehab has gone well, and it's not crazy to think he'll be ready for Week 1.

With new head coach Gary Kubiak's love of the zone-blocking scheme and moving pockets in the passing game, Ogbuehi's top-tier footwork is a big boost to his value in Denver.

29. Indianapolis Colts

The Pick: Free Safety Damarious Randall, Arizona State

Damarious Randall may not be a household name in the draft world, but he should be. As the best free safety in this class, he has big value in the late first round.

Randall has range, and he'll get compared to Tyrann Mathieu and Jimmie Ward for his coverage skills and hands. He can line up as a single-high safety, as a nickel cornerback or in a two-deep look without sacrificing his impact. That's something the Colts can use—a playmaker on defense who can take away the deep middle of the field.

30. Green Bay Packers

The Pick: Defensive Lineman Jordan Phillips, Oklahoma

The B.J. Raji experiment has seemed to regress each year, making the move to replace the former first-rounder a priority in Green Bay. Enter Jordan Phillips. It makes too much sense not to happen, especially after the Packers hired Phillips' college line coach Jerry Montgomery to join the team.

Phillips isn't a first-rounder on my board, but the need makes sense. And at 6'5", 329 pounds, it's easy to see why a team like Green Bay would want him clogging lanes and creating an interior pass rush in the NFC North.

31. New Orleans Saints

The Pick: Edge-Rusher Eli Harold, Virginia

With their second pick in the first round, the New Orleans Saints address the defense and add a pass-rusher opposite Junior Galette. Eli Harold has all the traits you look for in an edge-rusher (speed, length, toughness, flexibility) and was a productive star at Virginia.

He can be inconsistent, which is why he's still on the board at No. 31. But in New Orleans, Rob Ryan will coach the heck out of him and get Harold in positions to win.

32. New England Patriots

The Pick: Cornerback Byron Jones, Connecticut

The New England Patriots are among the hardest teams in the NFL to predict on draft day, and the most accurate projection may be that Bill Belichick will trade this pick for a 2016 first-rounder. But in a mock draft with no trades, the Patriots stay put and draft a cornerback to ease the loss of Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner.

Byron Jones has size, speed and world-class explosive ability, and he can play on the line in press coverage or off the ball in a zone. He's a bit raw and did miss much of 2014 with a shoulder injury, but he's healthy now and would be a Day 1 starter in New England.
