McCarthy Out for Season With UCL Tear
Monday, April 27
According to manager Don Mattingly, McCarthy "is out for the year with a UCL tear," per the Dodgers on Twitter.
McCarthy admitted that Tommy John surgery is "likely," per Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.
Shaikin added more details, and McCarthy commented on the news:
Adam Liberatore will be taking his roster spot, confirmed the Dodgers.
McCarthy left the game on April 25 in the bottom of the sixth inning after surrendering a three-run home run to Justin Upton that made it 10-6 in favor of the Dodgers.
After the game, the 31-year-old revealed that he had been experiencing pain in his elbow dating back to his last start, per Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.
Entering Saturday, McCarthy had made three starts, going 2-0 with a 4.50 earned run average.
The Dodgers aren't blessed with a wealth of starting pitching beyond Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke. Brett Anderson has always been plagued by injuries, while the other two pitchers to record a start for L.A. in 2015 are David Huff and Mike Bolsinger.
McCarthy isn't a vital piece of the rotation, but the Dodgers will certainly feel his absence throughout the rest of the season.
