Royals Fans Complain About Hot Dog Quality at Kauffman Stadium's Buck Night

Joseph ZuckerApr 20, 2015

The Kansas City Royals and Aramark, the food vendor for Kauffman Stadium, are in hot water again after allegations that substandard food was served over the weekend.

Chris Oberholtz and Nathan Vickers of KCTV5 in Kansas City reported that fans who took advantage of $1 hot dogs on Buck Night on Friday received moldy buns in some cases and in others hot dogs that hardly resembled a typical hot dog.

"You just couldn't eat it," said Neal Ross, a fan who purchased one of the $1 hot dogs.

Ross added that he attempted to get a more edible hot dog from one of the stands in the stadium, but the concession stand workers "kind of told us, 'well they're a dollar, so you get what you get.'"

Region 8 News in Jonesboro, Arkansas, posted a few pictures of the offending hot dogs that had made their way across social media:

Aramark contends that a health inspector was present for the Buck Night promotion and discovered no violations in the preparation or serving of the hot dogs. The company also released a statement to KCTV5 that read:

"

Customer satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us and we take all guest concerns seriously. During Friday night's game, where we served 63,000 hot dogs, the Kansas City Health Department was onsite to inspect our buck night hot dog operations and found no violations. We are aware of the images posted to social media and are in the process of investigating and contacting those guests to get more information. As previously stated, we strive to ensure the food served at Kauffman Stadium is great tasting, of the highest quality and safe to eat.

"

This comes less than a month after Aramark fired Jon Costa, a food safety manager at both Kauffman Stadium and Arrowhead Stadium. Costa notified ESPN's Outside The Lines last November of potential health code violations at both venues.

According to ESPN.com's Paula Lavigne, health inspectors investigated the claims on Nov. 3 and found 20 of the stadiums' 26 stands to be in violation of a health code, with 37 violations in the "critical" category.
