5 Realistic Trade Partners for Denver Broncos in 2015 NFL Draft
The 2015 NFL draft is fast approaching, and in just two weeks, all the speculation as to where the players in the draft are going will be put to rest.
But the anticipation that builds in the draft isn't just about which players will go where, but also which teams may make some trades.
There are countless ways for teams to maneuver the picks at their disposal, and the best organizations know how to find the best value.
Sometimes, that comes via trade.
The Denver Broncos will enter the draft the owners of 10 selections. That gives them a lot of wiggle room. Will they actually select 10 players, or will some of those picks be shuffled around for a more favorable position or player?
Here, we take a look at five teams that could receive a call from the Broncos about trade options. Of course, these same five teams could come calling, as well.
What would the Broncos receive in return? That would be the key. Take a look at these five deals and see what you think.
Arizona Cardinals
1 of 5
The Broncos will likely consider drafting an offensive lineman in the first round, and this draft is stockpiled with productive offensive linemen. However, many of the players the Broncos have circled on their draft board could be gone by the time they come up at No. 28.
The Arizona Cardinals sit at No. 24 in the first round, one pick ahead of the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are another team that could be looking for more depth on its offensive line, and the Broncos will be wary of that.
If a player like Andrus Peat, La'el Collins or T.J. Clemmings is still on the board when the Cardinals go on the clock, the Broncos could move into that spot to steal that player from Carolina.
Trade: Denver trades up to No. 24 overall in first round, Arizona receives No. 28 overall pick in first round and Denver's fifth-round pick (No. 143).
St. Louis Rams
2 of 5
The St. Louis Rams aren't afraid to wheel and deal. That was evidenced when they were part of one of the biggest trades in recent memory—shipping former No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford to Philadelphia for Nick Foles.
The exchange of quarterbacks could be just the start of a big shakeup in St. Louis this offseason.
With head coach Jeff Fisher leading the charge, the Rams are a team looking to make a mark in 2015. They could decide to get even more aggressive when the draft starts, looking to obtain a second first-round pick.
If the Broncos don't like what's on the board when No. 28 rolls around, they could be a team that piques the Rams' interest. A deal between the two could land the Rams an extra pick in the first round, but the Broncos could work a sweet deal out of it, as well.
Denver needs a new free safety now that Rahim Moore is gone, and Rodney McLeod of St. Louis could fill that void. McLeod's departure from St. Louis would be softened by the fact that Lamarcus Joyner, a second-round pick last year, could step in and start next season. Denver would then drop into the Rams' position in the second round.
This deal would make sense for both teams if Denver doesn't see value in pick No. 28.
Trade: St. Louis receives No. 28 overall pick, Denver receives St. Louis' second-round pick (No. 41) and free safety Rodney McLeod.
Philadephia Eagles
3 of 5
If head coach Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles don't give up a bunch of picks to move up for a chance to select quarterback Marcus Mariota, a trade between the Eagles and Broncos could be a possibility.
The Eagles currently hold the No. 20 overall pick in the draft, one spot ahead of the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals may be a team, like Denver, that is looking for offensive line help.
This would be a bigger jump than a trade with Arizona, so the Broncos would have to give up a little more. With 10 picks, they have the ammo to do that.
If Kelly and the Eagles organization want to stockpile some picks, the Broncos would be a good team to do that with.
In this scenario, Denver would jump ahead of Cincinnati in order to select a player like Peat or Collins. The Broncos would then give Philadelphia the No. 28 overall pick and two picks in the later rounds.
Trade: Denver receives No. 20 overall pick, Philadelphia receives No. 28 overall pick plus Denver's fifth-round pick (No. 143).
New York Jets
4 of 5
This wouldn't be a flashy trade, but it is the kind of trade you see take place in the draft.
The New York Jets have just six draft picks. They will make one selection in each of the first four rounds, but they then have nothing until the seventh round.
Looking to get more picks on their side, the Jets could approach the Broncos and try to pry away some of the 10 picks that they are holding. But sensing desperation, Denver would of course look for the best deal.
This would be a way for Denver to give up a few later picks in order to grab an extra selection in the earlier portion of the draft.
Trade: Denver receives New York's third-round pick (No. 70), New York receives Denver's fifth-round pick (No. 143), fifth-round pick (No. 164) and future considerations.
San Francisco 49ers
5 of 5
With the way the offseason has gone for the San Francisco 49ers, they appear to be a team building for the future. Not only is Jim Harbaugh gone as the team's head coach, but Frank Gore, Patrick Willis and Chris Borland have also moved on.
A trade with the Broncos could come to fruition if Denver doesn't like what is on the board when pick No. 28 comes up, particularly as it relates to offensive linemen.
But what if they could get an offensive lineman and pick up another second-round pick by trading back in the draft?
Anthony Davis could be a great acquisition for the Broncos if they could figure out a way to take on his salary. Davis, a former first-round draft pick, could fix Denver's issues at the right tackle spot.
In exchange, the 49ers would have a chance to take two players in the first round, helping to build a solid foundation for the future.
Trade: Denver receives San Francisco's second-round pick (No. 46) and right tackle Anthony Davis, San Francisco receives No. 28 overall pick.
