Jordan Spieth Says He's Lost Count of Money He's Won Playing Golf with Tony Romo

Jordan Spieth became $1.8 million richer after winning the 2015 Masters. 

He’ll lose a chunk of that money to taxes (not as much, say, had he won the British Open), but the good news is he can staunch that bleeding with a couple of rounds of golf with Tony Romo.

In an interview on Jim Rome on Showtime Wednesday, the 21-year-old Dallas native said he plays golf with Romo often, and it's come to the point where he can’t even keep track of all the money he’s won off the Dallas Cowboys quarterback.

Eye On Football’s Will Brinson picked up on the amusing admission. Spieth says Romo, an exceedingly good golfer for a non-pro, refuses to take most leniency when the two head out for a round. 

“He doesn’t swallow his pride and take a lot of strokes,” Spieth said. “He likes to play maybe like two or three a side, which means I’m usually on the winning end of that one.” 

As for the cash wagered, Spieth has fleeced so much dough off the quarterback that he can’t even hazard a guess as to the total damage. 

“I don’t know [how much],” Spieth said. “I can’t even count that high. He’s a good friend and a great competitor so we have fun out there.”

On the bright side, any money lost by Romo is less money that could be potentially spent on Duke polo shirts, so, in a sense, it’s a net win for everyone.
