Jameis Winston Calls Himself Best Player in 2015 NFL Draft

Matt FitzgeraldMar 31, 2015

Former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston has no shortage of confidence ahead of the 2015 NFL draft.

After completing his pro day in Tallahassee, Winston declared himself the top prospect when asked why the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should choose him No. 1 overall.

"Because I'm the best player in the draft," said Winston, via ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas.

SportsCenter caught footage of one tremendous toss Winston unleashed during his Tuesday showcase:

Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht was also on hand and shared his thoughts after watching Winston complete 92 of 102 passes.

"He had a great day. He threw a full nine innings," said Licht, via Yasinskas. "He showed his arm strength from Throw 1 to Throw 100 or whatever it was."

Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson weighed in on Winston's performance, suggesting Tampa Bay will indeed take him at the top of the draft on April 30:

A number of off-field incidents have cast doubt on Winston and his ability to be the face of an NFL franchise.

Since he ran a pro-style offense with the Seminoles and won a Heisman and national championship, though, Winston is viewed as the best QB prospect from a pure football standpoint. Thus, the dilemma of drafting Winston so high.

All Winston can do is prove he has matured, continue to throw darts and present himself in the best light possible.

What he said and did at his pro day suggests Winston may be well on his way to being drafted first overall. Whether he ultimately makes good on that opportunity is another matter.
