Report: Lawrence Wants Out of NY
1. Tom Brady, NE
The knee is healthy, and Brady is hungry, making him my top fantasy QB. With a more than capable group of receivers, Brady will eclipse the 4,000-yard mark and should lead the NFL in TD passes.
2. Peyton Manning, IND
Consistency is the name of the game when drafting the quarterback high, and over the last decade, no player has been more consistent than Manning. He may not be the top fantasy QB, but you won't kick yourself for the pick.
3. Drew Brees, NO
The Saints will still be hurling the ball down the field this year, but the tougher schedule puts Brees' TD-to-INT ratio in jeopardy. He is the top fantasy QB for some, but he's not as flawless as you may think.
4. Aaron Rodgers, GB
Rodgers has no problem adjusting to life as a starter, and now that he has a rhythm with his receivers, the good times will keep rolling. Even though he faced plenty of passing situations, Rodgers found a way to keep his INT numbers down.
5. Kurt Warner, ARI
If Warner is the starter in Arizona for 16 games, he is a fabulous pick. There are plenty of weapons around him, and Warner does a great job of getting the ball out of his hands.
6. Donovan McNabb, PHI
The Eagles' Super Bowl hopes are resting on the shoulders of McNabb. Philly's line is stronger, and the receivers are deeper. Every year owners sleep on McNabb, and every year he makes teams pay.
7. Philip Rivers, SD
In 2008 Rivers showed he could be a true passing threat. SD hopes that Rivers won't have to put the ball in the air as much, but he should continue to flourish.
8. Carson Palmer, CIN
Palmer will surpass the 4,000-yard mark if he can play 16 games. Chad Ochocinco, Laveranues Coles, and Chris Henry are troubled but very dangerous receivers to throw to.
9. Tony Romo, DAL
Just because TO is gone it doesn't mean Dallas is going to quit throwing the ball. The hype surrounding Romo has died down, but he still has very good receivers and a monstrous offensive line.
10. Matt Schaub, HOU
A dark horse fantasy QB of sorts. Schaub has struggled to stay healthy in Houston, but he knows how to get the ball to Andre Johnson when on the field, resulting in fantasy success.
11. Jay Cutler, CHI
The Bears play a different brand of football than the Broncos, and even if they wanted to move the ball like last year, they don't have the firepower. After an offseason of turmoil, all of the pressure on Cutler is a red flag for me.
12. David Garrard, JAX
For the first time since Jimmy Smith in 2005, Garrard is paired with a legitimate No. 1 receiver. The Jags are focused this year (especially Garrard, who dropped 20 pounds of fat), and MJD racks up easy receiving stats, making Garrard my top fantasy sleeper QB.
13. Eli Manning, NYG
If the Giants had a premier WR, Manning would be a top 10 lock. Even though his receivers are somewhat unproven, Manning is a very skilled QB entering his professional prime.
14. Matt Cassel, KC
Cassel is sliding down the fantasy board and has been from the moment KC decided to part ways with Tony Gonzalez. Dwayne Bowe was far from perfect last year with drop problems, and his weight and work ethic have flared question marks in camp, leaving Cassel without a top target.
15. Ben Roethlisberger, PIT
Coming off a Super Bowl victory, Big Ben will still be called upon to get the job done in crunch time, but the Steelers' bread and butter is pounding the ground and tough D—not an air attack.
16. Brett Favre, MIN
Potentially a viable full-time starter when the season rolls around. Favre has a deep target in Bernard Berrian, and the focus on Adrian Peterson and Percy Harvin will keep defenses from smothering the future Hall of Famer.
17. Matt Ryan, ATL
Going from a very soft schedule to facing eight teams with serious playoff hopes will have an ill effect on Ryan, even if he throws a few more TD passes with the addition of Gonzalez.
18. Kyle Orton, DEN
Orton can win games, but his career hasn't been pretty. The turmoil with Brandon Marshall in Denver may leave Orton without a 100-catch, 1,000-yard receiver on the flank.
19. Matt Hasselbeck, SEA
Seattle is supplying Hasselbeck with the best receiving corps of his Seahawk career, but how many more hits can he take?
20. Chad Pennington, MIA
The most accurate passer in football will not wow anybody, but he won't sink your ship either.
21. Trent Edwards, BUF
Potentially a breakout year for Edwards, but we've yet to see he can be a true downfield passer.
22. Jason Campbell, WAS
The heat is on for Campbell to perform. He has some nice options, but will he ever take his game to the next level?
23. Jake Delhomme, CAR
No matter how much money you throw at Delhomme, it won't stop him from singlehandedly sinking your fantasy squad on any given Sunday.
24. Daunte Culpepper, DET
If Detroit were going to put Matt Stafford on the back burner for the entire year, Culpepper would be a serious fantasy threat. Unfortunately, we don't know how often he will be pulled for "the future."
25. Joe Flacco, BAL
The job of the Ravens QB is to not blow the game, which means no flash from Flacco.
26. Shaun Hill, SF
The heat is on for Hill; he is playing for his job, but right now he has the upper hand on Alex Smith.
27. JaMarcus Russell, OAK
The Raiders are not doing anything in the now, and the future is with Russell, which means he should be given as many opportunities to fail as needed.
28. Marc Bulger, STL
Bulger still has some good games left in his arm. Unfortunately, the Rams' squad is leaving him shorthanded this year.
29. Brady Quinn, CLE
Whoever wins the job in Cleveland could be a spot fantasy starter throughout the year. Quinn is less careless and more poised, making him the best option for Eric Mangini's style of play.
30. Kerry Collins, TEN
If you want to win games, Collins can still manage the game and make the right throws, but the Titans are a running team, and even though they improved their receivers, they are still in the bottom half of the league.
31. Mark Sanchez, NYJ
The Jets will not be an offensive powerhouse, and they lose nothing by starting the confident Sanchez over Kellen Clemens, who's destined for a career as a backup.
32. Byron Leftwich, TB
Things are not looking good for the Bucs this year; we may see three QBs fill the role throughout the year, and none will be a worthwhile fantasy option.
33. Michael Vick, PHI
We don't know when we will see Vick or how much he will play, but he is one play away from a rushing touchdown every snap, making him a wildcat wild card as a fantasy QB.
34. Vince Young, TEN
Will we see a wildcat look from Young this year? Will he be traded? Will he start for the Titans? All things are possible, so keep a close eye on the former star.
35. Alex Smith, SF
Still trying to redeem his top pick, Smith could win the starting job in SF, but it won't make him much of a fantasy option.
36. Derek Anderson, CLE
The chances of Anderson starting and doing well are very slim. If he does win the starting job somehow, many INTs will come with the TDs.
37. Pat White, MIA
Much like Vick, we don't know what capacity White will be used in this season, but it is going to be exciting to watch.
38. Kellen Clemens, NYJ
It's looking impossible for Clemens to win the starting job, and he may be dropped off all fantasy lists soon.
39. Jeff Garcia, OAK
Is he better than Russell? Most likely, but he should be the QB for a team with playoff aspirations if he wants on the field.
40. Matthew Stafford, DET
Even if he doesn't start, Stafford will see the field some this year. Anticipate a few deep TD passes as well as a few picks on the way.
