Kenny Britt Re-Signs with Rams: Latest Contract Details, Comments, Reaction

Tim DanielsMar 13, 2015

The St. Louis Rams have reached a two-year agreement worth almost $14 million, with $4.3 million guaranteed, with veteran wide receiver Kenny Britt. The team announced the deal on March 18:

"

The Rams have retained free agent wide receiver Kenny Britt, with the wide receiver re-signing with the club on Wednesday.

“It feels awesome,” Britt told stlouisrams.com on Wednesday. “I’m going to paint my horns back on. We’ve got great fans, great coaches, great people around us, and I’m just excited for the 2015 season.”

“We had a great team in 2014, we just fell short,” Britt said. “But we know in 2015 that we can grasp our goal that we want -- get to the playoffs, get to the Super Bowl. So I’m really excited about what’s been happening in the last couple of weeks.”

“Before I leave and hang it all up, I want to get there,” Britt said. “And I want to get there with those horns on top of my head.”

Britt is not a high-end receiver. He has never caught 50 passes in a season and has tallied a modest 22 touchdowns across six years in the NFL.

Instead, the Rutgers product has simply become a reliable target—somebody who can fill several different roles within a receiving corps. There is value in that.

The question coming into the offseason was whether the Rams would bring him back. He signed a one-year deal with St. Louis last March and proceeded to lead the team in receiving yards, though the need for a true No. 1 wideout was obvious.

After the season, Britt told Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he was hoping things would work out to keep him with the Rams:

"

I definitely want to come back here. This is a young team. It's a great young team. They've just scratched the surface on what their abilities could be. They're growing each day, and they're growing each year.

I've only been here one year, so to see how they've grown from OTAs to now is just amazing. So I want to see 'em grow even more. I hope I can be a part of that.

"

Of course, there are few guarantees when it comes to free agency.

Luckily for Britt, things worked out. He gets to stay with the Rams under the guidance of head coach Jeff Fisher, whom he also worked with during his time with the Tennessee Titans.

Ultimately, his role within the offense won't be known until the dust settles ahead of training camp. Though he did step up last season, it would be best for the Rams if he's not expected to lead the team in receiving again.

The Rams passing game will look different this season with Nick Foles behind center, as the quarterback was acquired in a trade that sent Sam Bradford to Philadelphia.

Britt, Stedman Bailey and Brian Quick could take a much-needed step forward in 2015 if Foles can add consistency under center.

Britt found a comfort zone with the Rams last season. Now, he'll look to build off it.
